In preparation for my Svart Hona breeding program, I am rehoming all but two of my Whiting True Blue hens as well as two Svart Hona hens. Please message me if you are interested!
The Svart Honas went broody together and co-parented their chicks that hatched in March. I would prefer for those two stay together because they are bonded. I have one WTB hen who was broody and just hatched four chicks yesterday- that little family can be rehomed but needs to stay together. She’s one of my favorite hens.
Everyone is almost exactly one year old and are regularly laying beautiful fertile eggs (fertilized by our Svart Hona rooster) to the point that between my household, my parents, and my sister’s family we can’t keep up with eating all of the eggs.

Is anyone interested in getting six chicks in about a week? A friend got an assortment of hatcheries choice hens from Cackle and will be getting six more than he actually wants. He’s offering to give them to anyone who wants them. There’s no way of knowing what breed(s) they will be.
I also posted this on my personal page and whoever can commit first will get them!!
The chicks will need to be picked up from Camas near Papa Murphy’s during regular business hours.

The Svart Hona x Whiting True Blue chicks have been loving the wisteria that is in the chicken run!! They wanted to jump around on it instead of going out and freeroaming with the rest of the flock. 😍

I can’t believe I forgot to post this!! On my birthday (March 8th) four chicks hatched from the eggs that the Svart Hona hens were sitting on! The hens kept moving eggs around and swapping eggs for new ones so I didn’t expect any to hatch.

Just finished my first attempt at glassing eggs!!! I used 75 eggs and if this works, they will be good for a full year!!! I just put the bucket in the back of the bottom shelf of our pantry and I want to try a few eggs each month to see how they keep, but realistically I’ll probably forget about them for a few months when we clean out the cabinets. Fingers crossed that this works!!!

The chickens had only laid about six eggs since it snowed so I didn’t check their laying boxes for a week… today we collected 64 eggs. 😅 Lots of Whiting True Blue eggs, and the two Svart Honas are putting in work too!!!

My husband was working on his car yesterday and saw a chicken parade. 😂 You can see Yoshi the Svart Hona rooster leading them, one Svart Hona hen (the all black hen), and a bunch of Whiting True Blue hens, all from this last spring. 😍

Yoshi the Svart Hona rooster needs a new home. I am getting a rooster who is better breeding quality (he doesn’t have mulberry like Yoshi does) and am sad to see him go. He is such a sweetheart with a huge personality.

It is amazing to me that all of these cuties are the same breed. They love exploring off the beaten path, and the rooster is great at keeping them together and safe. Seeing their individual personalities come out has been a real treat.
The rooster is ready for a new home, please send me a message if you’re interested! You can hatch an unlimited number of babies who have the blue egg laying gene with this sweet boy!!! He is friendly and has never charged or shown any aggression though he will run full speed to come get some snacks out of my hand. He just started crowing and can be trained to have a very soft crow if needed- it takes work, but our last rooster was trained to only crow softly when he needed something and it was perfect for living in the city.

There are only three Whiting True Blue hens and one rooster left who I am not keeping in my flock. The rooster and one hen are white with brown, and two hens are orange/brown and black. The four of them are a great group and love to forage together. The hens should be laying any day now, and the rooster is very sweet and is great at keeping his girls close to him!

Any time I try to take pictures of any of the chickens, my favorite rooster Yoshi wants to be involved. He’s a great pal and professional photobomber.

2021 Whiting True Blues I am not keeping.

Each color pattern (white vs brown/orange/black) has a set of colored bands as bracelets to make it easy to tell them apart.

Updates:
The white chicken with blue bands is a rooster and he is available.
All hens with orange bands are with their forever flocks.
The brown hen with purple bands is with her forever flock.
All of the black chickens are with their forever flock.
The white hens with purple and yellow bands are with their forever flock.
The Golden Campine is with her forever flock.

I am keeping this updated to share the joy of finding amazing flocks for well loved chickens. Sharing my love of these animals is one of my favorite things.

2021 Whiting True Blue Hens, 2021 Svart Honas, 2021 Golden Campine, and my two old hens

The chickens are all raised around four dogs ranging in size from 8-50 pounds, a two-year-old who calls them baby bock bocks and loves them, as well as four adults though they are around me 95% of the time. Their coop and enclosed run are 10 feet from a goat enclosure, and they free roam regularly. They can be timid at first, but are very sweet and comfortable around those they trust. They are handled regularly so they are friendly and never aggressive with people (big and small) and animals.
They are very helpful landscapers- I put a low welded wire fence up where I like for them to forage and eat weeds and they can easily fly over it if they want to. I open the door from their enclosed run to this run when I will be home to keep an eye on them. Living in the woods, they are monitored when free roaming to be sure predators stay away. These chickens are very well loved!

2021 Golden Campine Hen (2 months old in these photos)

This is a very old and rare breed which originated in Belgium. Golden Campines feature a beautiful combination of lustrous black and golden bay to make the distinctive barred feather pattern. They are rather small and lay white eggs.

In 2020, this sweet rooster spent all day at work with me (at a wonderful veterinary clinic) and was a perfect patient. All of the staff gave him love and even the receptionists who were scared of chickens gave him love and attention- he is such a sweet boy. Doctor Gretchen said she had never done an exam on such a calm and well mannered rooster.

Our nine-year-old broody hen got a clean bill of health in her 2021 annual wellness exam with our veterinarian! She has raised so many chicks and loves being surrogate mama hen. Doctor Gretchen (at Valley Veterinary Clinic) was pleasantly surprised that she is in such great health at her age.
