To let loose or to lead? 🤔

It can be pretty tough to accept that not everyone will welcome your bestie into their space with the same enthusiasm and love as you would. The proverbial call of ‘don’t worry, he’s friendly’, has left many a pet parent (or hiker, runner, or cyclist) with a sense of fear and dread 😨 Everyone should be able to enjoy their outing in a peaceful and calm environment, even if that means leashing up your beloved companion for a few minutes. Here are some points to remember the next time you take your fur baby out for a walk:

1. Choose your setting: Dog parks are best for free-roaming as other dogs that frequent them are generally more sociable 🤗
2. Read the room: When you see a fellow pet parent approaching and their dog is on lead, or they quickly leash up when they see you, it is probably for a reason 👀
3. Be ready to clip: No matter where you decide to take your fur child or how well behaved they are, make sure you have a suitable means to control them and keep them safe; like a harness or lead 🙌

Having a clean calf kitchen is important to eliminate the spread of disease and prevent Biofilms from forming. Below are steps to maintain a clean calf kitchen to have happy and healthy calves!

Cleaning Protocol Calf Feeding Equipment

1. Rinse
Rinse out bottles, buckets, feeding tubes and colostrum collection equipment to remove all soils including milk solids with warm water (about 90 °F). Do not use hot water!

2. Wash
Wash both the inside and the outside of the calf feeding equipment with a brush for at least 2-3 minutes using a 1% chlorinated alkaline detergent. Use hot water (130-135°F)
Manually wash bottle ni***es with a brush, check for visible cracks and signs of wear and tear.

3. Rinse
Thoroughly rinse the inside and the outside of the calf feeding equipment with cold water.

4. Acid rinse (optional)
Rinse a second time with cold water that contains both an acid (pH 2-3) and 50 ppm of chlorine dioxide

5. Dry
Allow the ni***es, bottles and buckets to drain and dry. All equipment should be air-dried on a drying rack.

6. Sanitize (optional)
Spray (2 hours or less before use) the inside and outside of the bottles, buckets, feeding tubes and colostrum equipment with a 50 ppm solution of chlorine dioxide. Allow a minimum of 60 seconds of contact with the calf feeding equipment.

Established in 1969 by Dan and Cassy Kane, Kane Veterinary Supplies is a Canadian wholesale distributor and manufacturer agent. Kane provides excellence in distribution of the highest quality, cutting edge, value-laden products to the veterinary, pet, agricultural and equine markets across Canada.

Today, Kane has two full-service branches – Edmonton, Alberta and Cambridge, Ontario. Day-to-day inventory consists of over 12,000 items including vet supplies and pharmaceuticals, pet food and toys, animal ID products, and pest control items.
