It’s holiday hazard week!
This mean that the holidays are around the corner, and we want to educate our community on keeping their pets safe during these months! Did you know feeding your dog turkey or ham bones can be dangerous? These bones can easily splinter and cause internal injuries! Letting your pets chew on bones can not only cause intestinal obstructions, it can damage teeth! Slab fractures are a painful break in your dogs tooth, this can be prevented by giving them soft or baked treats instead! Keep your furry friend safe this holiday season, and avoid giving them bones! 🐾

Mass removal.

Word of advice: get masses removed when they are small. It's easier for me as a surgeon but more importantly, it's an easier recovery for your pet. I didn't snap any after pictures, but his girl had an incision that was about 8-10 in long.

On the schedule for today is another episode of 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘺𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘥 𝘛𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘭𝘦! ⁣

👀 Luckily this one was easy to find. Can you spot it under the skin? ⁣

When I say a dog is cryptorchid, it means one or both of the testicles has not fully descended into the sc***um. The hidden testicle can be anywhere from inside the abdomen near the kidneys where they first developed, to just above the sc***um, like this guy. So close! ⁣

These dogs should ALWAYS be neutered as the cryptorchid testicle has a higher chance of becoming cancerous. The condition is also hereditary and could be passed to offspring. ⁣

***𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗖 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦***⁣

I saw this poor dog for a tail amputation after his owner wrapped an injury on his tail. Unfortunately, the bandage was too tight and cut off blood supply to the end of the tail.⁣

Please be extra cautious when wrapping tails and limbs. This isn't the first time I've seen this. Luckily this dog's quality of life will not be negatively impacted with a shorter tail. However, imagine if it was his paw or his whole leg. 😱 ⁣

When in doubt, take you pet to the vet! What could've possibly been cured with appropriate treatment or even a lesser amputation, evolved into this dog losing his tail at the level of the red line shown on the last photo. ⁣

This year has brought many changes to my personal life and my professional career. I took some time away from this page to focus on those things, but the amount of cool and gross pictures on my phone is getting overwhelming. I need to start posting again. 😉 To start things off, this 👇🏼 is one of the major changes that I've been working very hard on this year.

Calling all pet owners!
We are happy to finally announce the opening of Az Vet Direct! We are a mobile surgical unit that offers affordable surgeries, and dental procedures. For your convenience we bring our services directly to you, with locations all over the Southeast Valley. We know how costly it is to care for our fur babies, especially when it comes to vet visits. Here at Az Vet Direct our mission is to offer lower-cost procedures to ensure your pets get the care they need. Contact us during our business hours or send us an email anytime, and we would love to get your pets on the schedule for their needed procedure(s). For any additional questions you can also checkout our website listed on our page, or call our direct line. 🐾
