Just like some leaves and flowers are now leafing out and blooming, this farmer is now emerging from his dormancy. As much as I cherish the slower pace of the off season, it’s good to get back to working with the land..
The winter break from the grind included: the annual trip to visit family, a barn cleaning (still lots of work to be done), and a trip with friends to Costa Rica..
…turns out that’s also where Santa goes after his busy season..

Happy Labor Day!
I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t laborin’ on Labor Day, at least for a bit…
But between harvesting for CSA, restaurants, the farmers market, and seeding/planting like crazy for the fall/winter… it’s just what it is.
At least I have something cold to drink in this heat.. cheers!

A huge thank you to and the wonderful staff that came out to volunteer at the farm today!
All those extra hands helped harvest a couple hundred pounds of carrots and potatoes and even weeded some basil!
So nice to have some food-friends right down the road!
Can’t wait for the Tomato Dinner at tomorrow night!

Since I’ve picked a good bit of bunches that have the “lover carrots” in them today, I thought it would be fun to do something with them…
If you mention this post and grab a bunch of carrots that have the “lover carrots” in them at the tomorrow morning, I’ll give you a free bunch of broccolini!
Same applies for the large bunches of freak mutants I’ve assembled, and been referring to as “the funky bunch”…
Tell yo friends… come early for the best chance, since we’ve been selling out.. and please don’t destroy the massive pile of carrots I’ll have 😂

Feels good to finally be harvesting again… THANK YOU to all who have signed up for a 2023 Horseshoe Farmshare!! Your DIRECT support early in the season is crucial for the purchasing of seeds, fertilizer, tools/equipment, labor, etc. This program is the backbone of Horseshoe Farm and I’m so grateful for those who sign up..
There are only a couple of spots still available before the online ordering deadline of this Sunday the 2nd. The first bag is Wednesday the 5th.
Thanks again to all that signed up. I’m looking forward to putting some fresh veggies on y’all’s tables!

Part of the reason I named this farm Horseshoe Farm was finding these guys all over… and just how lucky I am..
Now, I’m not SUPER stitious… but , I… I’m a little stitious… and took last week’s archeological excavation as a good sign…
…sho’nough found the first of the season’s morels and the asparagus started poppin’…
Definitely going to enjoy these spring treats with last fall’s deer harvest 😋

Just finished this gorgeous black walnut root coffee table Browning Studio . I’m quite smitten by the root mass of this walnut which came down in a storm a couple years ago at the farm …. Sheesh 😍

My alter ego was lucky enough to get to help with some projects at the new event space and the new downtown location of
… as usual, I’m a day late and a dollar short, but I’m excited to share my minor contributions to such a gorgeous space.
… just like it’s owner, this place is absolutely beautiful, smart, welcoming, thoughtful, eclectic, unique, and radiates love and joy.
