Little kitten found wandering the street by a college student in Redlands was being hidden and cared for in a college dorm with the very kind student looked for a rescue to help him! Eventually he made his way to a START Team member’s home (one who is a dog person and was not equipped to keep him! - hi Terri!) then all the way to Oregon today, along with 12 other critters (of the dog variety)! We were a little worried that kitten was going to be a bit feral and take some time to tame, but as soon as he arrived at a foster home, after some initial hissing and attacking, the Foster put on a YouTube purr soundtrack (a GREAT tip for kitten taming by the way) and kitten immediately decided it needed some human besties! - and all was well! We took this video one hour, one bath and three breakfast meals later! Hungry baby!!
He will head to a longer-term foster home in a couple of days so that he can receive his necessary vaccines, be neutered, and receive any other vetting needed, and then he will be up for adoption in the Portland, Oregon area! We are letting his new fosters name him 🥰

🚨LA and nearby counties’ shelters are overwhelmed and bursting at the seams with homeless pets. Many animals are living in deplorable conditions with crates upon crates, stacked in hallways and animals receiving a complete lack of care, zero walks, and no improvements on the horizon. We spoke to one county shelter system that is having to euthanize 500 dogs per month. This is really happening to perfectly good little souls.
😢 The Reality:
- Overcrowding: Shelters are beyond capacity, leading to stressful environments for the animals.
- Under resourced: Critical supplies and medical care are lacking.
- MOST CITY AND COUNTY OFFICIALS DONT CARE ENOUGH TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
-Not enough space, kennels, staff, fosters, volunteers, people who care…
- Euthanasia: Over 13,000 animals have been euthanized in LA shelters in the past year alone due to lack of space and resources.
📊 Sobering Statistics:
🚨Daily Intake: On average, 200 animals are brought into LA shelters every day.
Euthanasia Rate: Nearly 40% of the animals taken in are euthanized.
🚨Adoptions: Only about 20% of the animals are adopted.

🏡💚🐶Chrissy was rescued a few months ago with the expectation that she would find a home real fast! But sometimes rescue has a way of sending you curveballs. She ended up being super pregnant and is now FINALLY home!
She still needs to be spayed, but that’s the last thing to be done on her START Rescue to-do list and she’s ready!
So, 5 babies and 4 months later, she’s getting spoiled in her new home while she waits for her special spay day!!

❄️Miraculous Wintery Transport Mission Update! ❄️💚 Last week, we successfully helped rescue 67 dogs from various shelters in California and safely transported them to the Pacific Northwest. 🐾 Despite the powerful storms in the Northern states that pushed through just hours before, leaving ice, fallen trees, and power outages in its wake, our journey went incredibly smoothly – a true miracle! 🌬️ there were many German shepherd dog mixes, a bunch of huskies more than a handful of seniors quite a few large dogs, even a giant Doberman. Of course, there were Pitbulls on board too! All of these breeds are at risk of euthanasia in California’s shelters :(
