Is Your Dog Secretly Suffering? Chronic Pain is Often Missed.

"Chronic neuropathic pain is underdiagnosed in companion animals." - This stark statement from a recent study highlights a silent epidemic. Many dogs live with persistent, nerve-related pain that goes unnoticed, impacting their quality of life significantly.

We're passionate about uncovering these hidden pains. Our Dynamic Dog gait assessments go beyond a typical walk in the park. We meticulously analyse your dog's movement, looking for subtle signs of discomfort, limping, stiffness, or changes in posture/movement that could indicate underlying pain or discomfort.

Why is this so important?

Early detection is key: The sooner chronic pain is identified, the sooner treatment can begin, potentially preventing further damage and improving your dog's long-term prognosis.

Neuropathic pain is tricky: It often presents differently than other types of pain, making it easy to miss. Changes in behaviour, like increased irritability, withdrawal, or reluctance to be touched, can be red flags.

We can work with your vet: Our gait assessments provide valuable information that can help your vet make a more accurate diagnosis.

Don't let your Little Woofer suffer in silence. Schedule a gait assessment today and give your dog the gift of pain-free movement!

Enrichment: The Key to a Happy & Well-Balanced Dog

It's time to rethink dog enrichment! While food-based enrichment is valuable, it shouldn't be the only tool in your toolbox.

At [Your Business Name], we believe in a holistic approach to enrichment that goes beyond just treats.

Discover a world of enriching activities:
Social Interaction/enrichment: Playdates, spend quality time with your Little Woofer.
Cognitive Stimulation: Puzzle toys, scent work, training games..
Physical Activity: build a diy obstacle course, make a digging area.
Sensory Exploration: New sounds, smells, and textures.

Enrichment is crucial for:
Reducing stress and anxiety
Preventing destructive behaviours
Boosting mental and physical well-being
Strengthening the human-animal bond

Always look for enrichment ideas that your Little Woofer enjoys - not just what we want them to enjoy so experiment and see what they love to do!

The Importance of Weight Management for Dogs

Did you know that weight loss can significantly reduce lameness in obese dogs with osteoarthritis? A study by Marshall et al. (2010) revealed this crucial finding.

Excess weight puts immense strain on joints, exacerbating pain and hindering mobility in dogs with osteoarthritis. By addressing weight management, you can significantly improve your dog's quality of life.

In our Dynamic Dog Assessments we meticulously observe your dog's movement patterns to help uncover pain/ discomfort.

Our Dynamic Dog Assessments provide valuable insights into your dog's specific needs, empowering you to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

Fun Fact: Did you know that a puppy starts its dental journey with 28 teeth? But here's the twist - just like kids losing baby teeth, puppies lose theirs too. So, don't be surprised if you stumble upon a tiny tooth on the floor or wedged in a toy! During this phase you might see an increase in biting/chewing so give them plenty of cold/frozen chews and treats!

When the puppy stage gives way to adulthood, our Little Woofers upgrade to a full set of 42 teeth! Similar to us humans, they boast incisors, canines, premolars, and molars, making their dental structure surprisingly familiar.

An overbite or underbite could be more than just a quirky feature; it might cause discomfort, pain and behavioural issues.

As responsible pawrents, ensuring your pup's dental health is crucial. Keep an eye out for any signs of discomfort/pain and don't hesitate to consult with a professional.

Supporting Your Dog's Joints!

Through our Dynamic Dog Assessments, we've witnessed first-hand how crucial proper nutrition is for maintaining healthy joints in our Little Woofers. While the supplement market can be overwhelming, research consistently points to the anti-inflammatory benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oils.

These essential fatty acids play a vital role in regulating inflammatory compounds within the body, promoting joint health and overall well-being.

The alarming statistic that "40% of dogs aged 8 months to 4 years had osteoarthritis in at least 1 joint" (Enomoto et al., 2024) underscores the importance of proactive joint care.

We prioritize evidence-based approaches. During our Dynamic Dog Assessments, we provide personalised recommendations for high-quality supplements, including fish oil, based on our experience and thorough research.

Suspect your dog might be experiencing discomfort? Our assessments can help identify potential underlying issues that may be impacting their movement and behaviour.

Contact us today to schedule a consultation and learn more about how we can support your dog's joint health and overall well-being.

Most pups don't come house trained and it is up to us to show them the appropriate place to go to the toilet in a calm and positive way.

We don’t recommend puppy pads as these promote toileting in the house and it can be harder for a pup to get the outdoor concept as pups and dogs don’t generalise very well.

All pups and dogs learn at different speeds, so your pup isn’t stubborn or bold they just don’t understand yet. If we give out to a pup for going inside the house not only are we breaking a bond with them we more than likely just teaching them to hid their toileting from us instead.

Pups need plenty of toilet breaks- you can swipe to see some tips on toilet training.

If you are having problems with puppy toilet training this is something we cover on our Puppy sessions or if you want to get ahead of this before you get a puppy and have a plan of action before your pup gets there we cover this also in our Pre-Puppy talk🐶

Decoding Your Dog's Pain
Just because your Little Woofer is wagging their tail and bounding around doesn't necessarily mean they're pain-free. Dogs are masters of disguising pain, often masking discomfort with their playful enthusiasm. Here are a few signs that might indicate your pup is hurting, even if they're putting on a brave face:

Adrenaline Rush
The thrill of an exciting walk or playtime can temporarily mask pain as their adrenaline kicks in. But once the excitement wears off, the pain might come back with a vengeance. This may also present as obsessing over play/running – as constant hits of adrenaline – gives the bonus of avoiding the pain for longer! Or indeed a dog who never rests!

Chronic Pain
Some pain conditions are ongoing, so dogs adapt to a new normal, making it harder to spot subtle signs. Keep an eye out for changes in their behaviour, appetite, and energy levels.

Soft P**p Alert!
A soft or runny stool can be a sign of pain or digestive issues. If your dog's p**p consistency changes, it's time to consult your vet or even better a canine nutritionist such as

Movement Changes
Limping, bunny hopping, or reluctance to move can indicate pain, especially if it's a sudden change in their usual gait.

Sleep Habit Alterations
Dogs need their rest, but drastic changes in sleeping patterns – too much or too little – can be a red flag.

Behavioural Cues
Excessive grooming, restlessness, or avoiding interaction could signal underlying pain.

We're delighted to launch our First Tracking class of the year - which since making this post is now FULLY BOOKED!!!! If you would be interested in joining our next tracking class you can fill in this form: https://forms.office.com/r/PaC5ruvgdS

Tracking is like mindfulness for dogs, it's time spent using their instincts and noses in the way they were intended! Learning to follow a path of human scent to their end article!

What will me and my dog get from this course?
It has been proven to increase the connectivity between both hemispheres of the teenage brain - for anyone struggling with a teen dog - nose work is the best activity you can engage in!

It's a 'Hands-off' training environment - meaning your Little Woofer is given some basic instruction - and then gets to learn and develop their skills independently. This is a huge confidence builder and we've had dogs that struggled with environments/noises etc that will manage to track through those distractions with ease!

It is a low impact activity - so it's good for dogs of all ages, stages and abilities to gently exercise - whilst also being highly stimulating for their mind.
If that's not enough... It's fun to learn, rewarding for both the handler and the dog and it's an awesome new activity that you can bring into your dogs life!

Go on - book your space now before they fill! 🙂
