Potential client: “Why do most groomers try to hide when I say I have a doodle?”😅”Why are doodles so pricey to groom? “
First off I’d like to say I love doodles personalities, they are usually happy and goofy dogs.
The problem comes when they are not brushed correctly and maintained between grooming appointments.
They usually range in size from 50-90 lbs. If they are not used to regular grooming they wiggle and jump and throw their groomer around and make it nearly impossible to let us do our job quickly and efficiently.
That thick doodle coat takes a really long time to wash and throughly dry.
Then they’ll have to be brushed out completely and be tangle free before a haircut can even be started.
Their coat is unique and requires a daily thorough brushing at home to keep them looking like those overgrown teddy bears we see online.🧸
You’ll need a slicker brush and a long toothed metal greyhound style comb to brush them properly at home. If you only brush the top part of the coat and don’t get all the way to the skin underneath the hair will tangle and cause a spiderweb of matting. Sometimes just bruising the top looks like they’re tangle free but it’s what’s hiding underneath that causes issues.
When a dog has a lot of matting, the only humane option is to shave them with clippers. In order to remove the matting groomers have to position the clippers under the matt and between skin🙈.
We don’t want to shave your dog, it causes excessive wear and tear on our equipment , our body and doesn’t give us the ability to showcase our talents.
If your dogs coat is unable to be saved and they have to be shaved, the hair will grow back !Consider it a chance for a fresh start. Ask your groomer how often you should be bringing your pup in to avoid this from happening and schedule your next few appointments before you leave.
Us groomers want to help you take the very best care of your pup and keep them looking beautiful! If you have any questions about their coat care ask your groomer. 🐾
