Puppies are born deaf, and hearing is the last of their senses to develop. Puppies will often start hearing when they are around three weeks old.

Besides hearing about four times better than most people, dogs can also hear a wide range of frequencies.

I hope that I've managed to impart some knowledge this year and help you to make good choices for a healthier pooch.

I truly appreciate everybody that joins me on my mission to make pet nutrition fun and simple. I want to help to improve the health of dogs, whilst reducing the stress and overwhelm of pet parents.

We're at that funny in between time. Christmas has been but it's still full Christmas and December vibes. Some of us are back to work, whilst others are still off work or working different schedules. Nobody is confident what day it is.

Here are my suggestions of what to do today to shake up the Christmas Limbo:
❄ Wrap up warm and head out on a long dog walk
🐶 Prepare some enrichment activities for your pooch *
🧠 Teach your pooch a new trick or command
📷 Measure your dog's Body Condition Score, take a photo and make a note to reference in future
🥦 Consider if any changes to their diet could improve their overall health

*How about:
- Fill a kong
- Spread a treat/ wet food onto a Lickimat
(These can be frozen)
- Hide kibble in screwed up newspaper/ brown paper or a snuffle mat
- Set up a treasure hunt for your pooch

This time of year there are so many human treats around the house. Please make sure they are out of reach of any cheeky canine thieves!

Especially as human treats like chocolate, dried fruit, alcohol & more are poisonous to dogs, it's important to keep our pooches safe 🐾🎄

❄️Mince pies - whether you love this festive treat or not, there are a lot around at this time of year.

❗️Remember to keep Mince Pies out of reach of your dogs.

Mince pies contain dried fruit, particularly raisins, and some contain alcohol too.

❌Raisins (and grapes) are toxic to dogs so be sure to keep them out of their reach.
It’s important to seek veterinary help immediately if your dog has helped themselves to raisins, or foods like mince pies which contain raisins, as they can lead to kidney failure.

🚫Keep mince pies out of the reach of any four pawed food thieves and table sharks.

Golden Oldies⭐
Do you have a golden oldie?
Every dog has unique nutritional needs, and so are senior dogs. As your beloved pooch approaches their golden years, it can be hard to understand their changing dietary requirements.

The weather is colder, wetter and darked than it was back in the summer. You may argue that winter is not ideal for dog walking. However, I'm certain that needing to get out for a walk when you wouldn't want to otherwise does you the world of good.

You're keeping moving
You're getting outside
You might be seeing other people when you're out walking
You have time bonding with your dog.

I can bet that even when you don't want to go on a dog walk, you always feel glad you went. The days when I think I don't have time to walk are definitely the days when I most need to step away from work, get outside and walk Bo!

Getting us out walking is just one of the ways our dogs positively influence our mental health.

Many pet owners are battling with the scale from time While overweight and obese dogs are too common, Sometimes, for whatever reason, our dogs need to put on weight.

When our dogs are underweight, they spend more energy than they eat.
❗️ Of course, several conditions can cause your dog to go off their food or become underweight, so if your dog becomes underweight and the cause isn't apparent, get them checked out by a vet to understand why they're underweight and give proper advice.

Just like humans, dogs need mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. As the weather becomes colder and could be less appealing for log walks and outdoor adventures, look to indoor enrichment solutions for your pooch.

Puzzle toys and new games are great ways to keep your dog engaged, especially when you can't give them 100% attention.
