Pyometra? WT? Any female intact ie not fixed dog is at risk. The older the dog the greater the risk because of the hormonal changes of going in and out of heat. This is a life threatening, deadly situation that by the time it’s noticed it may be too late and the dog will die without immediate emergency surgery.

THIS IS PREVENTABLE! Get your dogs spayed and neutered. Let paint the picture, the uterus becomes inflamed, swollen, enlarged, filled with stinky rotten fishy smelling infection and pus. Think of the nastiest infection smell you can imagine think sepsis.

Today Jewel was going to be shot by her good for nothing sorry 🤬🤬🤬 owner because she was no longer of use too him you know as a puppy making machine.
A Good Samaritan stepped in made a plea for help to save her with life saving surgery! Like she does our Kat Harrington stepped into action and her friends and supporters raised funds for emergency surgery.

All of this is preventable if you would spay and neuter your dogs. The pictures are gross and FB will probably cover them but it’s the reality of what can happen to your unaltered female dogs.

Need help getting your dogs fixed, ask most rescues and volunteers can point you in the right direction.

The Four P’ of cold weather. PEOPLE, PETS, plants and pipes.

Please check on the elderly, disabled or vulnerable people in your life/area. Make sure they have heat, RX, groceries spend a little time with them or at the least call and speak with them. The people could be family, friends, acquaintances or the homeless.

Pets, NO pets needs to be in the cold for extended periods. If you see anyone that has their dog chained up or in a pen with no shelter ( honestly don’t get me started on what’s wrong with that statement) offer to help with straw, elevated bedding, wind barrier or call authorities (they probably won’t do anything) I’m cynical on the topic.

🐱🐈😿🙀 With winter weather imminent in the upcoming week, no matter where you reside it’s happening! I want to remind everyone to bring pets indoors and ensure outdoor cats have proper shelter. One quick way to create an outdoor cat shelter is to use a plastic tote or igloo cooler. Follow these instructions to create your own Cozy Cat Shelter.
Remember, using materials like blankets, towels, newspaper, or hay can actually make the cats colder by drawing out their body heat. Instead, opt to use straw as bedding in your shelter. For extra insulation, place a piece of vinyl or rubber over the doorway like a flap. It should be thick enough for insulation but light enough for our feline friends to easily push or pull it open.
Place the shelter near feeding areas to encourage cats to use them. Keep the shelter under an overhang or against a building and make sure that the entrance faces away from the wind.

🐾Straws are for paws! 🐾
🐾Cold weather tips 🐾

Long hair dogs love the cold weather, think huskeys etc short hairs not so much think pits and the like. No pets should be left out for extended periods.

As temperatures drop to record lows this week, pet and home owners need to be ready. Whether it is bringing pets inside or adding extra insulation to the home, preventive measures should be taken.

Pets

🐾Bring pets inside when the temperatures drop. 🐾Don’t just look at the thermometer consider the wind-chill factor. A “feels like” temperature is the true gauge for how cold it is.
🐾If left outside, dogs and cats can get frost bitten ears, nose and paws so try to bring them inside.
🐾If a pet must be kept outside there are steps to take in an effort to protect them. Get a heated pet bed. If that is not an option, give them a dry, elevated dog house with clean dry bedding and a flap over the opening to keep drafts out.
🐾Make sure their water bowls don’t freeze. Purchase heated water bowls.
🐾Feed them more often. Outdoor pets need extra calories to produce body heat.
🐾Check for cats before starting the car. Under the hood and wheel wells both retain heat making it the perfect spot for cats to go in cold weather.
🐾Buy booties for your dog. These can keep their paws warm and prevent injury from ice and snow melt.
Don’t forget the jacket. Dog jackets and sweaters will keep small, senior and single coated dogs warm.
Buy “pet safe” ice melting products. Be sure to wash paws if pets walk through chemicals.
🐾Keep antifreeze, salt and other household poisons away from pets.
🐾Watch your pet around heating stoves to prevent burns and dehydration.

Our Story

PAWmotion, Inc. began with a group of women who were volunteering at a local animal shelter together. We began to realize how much help was needed in Russell County, AL with the overpopulation of pets. We came to the conclusion that the only way to help reduce the overpopulation of pets was to get the animal laws changed in the county. We endlessly researched ways on how to propose stricter animal laws like mandatory spay and neuter laws, chain-free laws, and putting an end to backyard breeding. We believe the problem needs to be stopped at the source. PAWmotion, Inc. is interminably working behind the scenes to try to get the county to adopt stricter animal laws. During the process of trying to get laws changed, we fell in love with many animals in the Russell County-Phenix City Animal Shelter and decided they needed our help, also. We have provided vaccinations to the shelter to be administered to the animals coming in and to allow rescues outside of our area to be able to rescue animals from this shelter. We assist rescues as much as we possibly can to help the animals that end up at this shelter. We will not stop pursuing our mission to change the laws in Russell County, AL, nor will we stop helping save these deserving animals from euthanization.

Currently PAWmotion, Inc. is serving the areas of Southern and Coastal Georgia and specifically Long County GA. The shelter located in this economically disadvantaged county has very limited funding. PAWmotion, Inc. is dedicated to the shelter animals residing in this low kill facility by providing dog food, socialization and rescue opportunities. Currently we are in partnership with the shelter in Long County to provide a carport type structure to shade the animals in this outdoor facility from the hot Georgia sun and thunderstorms. Plans include an exercise play yard for the animals as currently they do not very limited opportunities for exercise. Our goal is to assist the shelter in providing a safe healthy environment for the shelter animals until permanent homes are found.
