AMEN!

I spent this weekend teaching aspiring animal chiropractors how to appropriately adjust animals. These students are spending $8000-$10,000 to become certified in animal chiropractic. This is ON TOP of the $150-350,000 they are spending on chiropractic or vet school.
I have many people ask me if their kids can shadow me as they would like to do what I do. This career is no easy task. To LEGALLY adjust animals you must first attend either vet or chiropractic school (4 years) then you are eligible to take the chiropractic course. The course is an intense 6 months of focusing on anatomy, neurology, palpation, appropriate adjusting technique, and recognizing when a problem is not chiropractic. You must pass multiple tests, including an extremely intimidating AVCA exam. .
Anyone can pretend they know what they are doing, but make sure you research who you are paying to adjust your horses. AVCA certified doctors have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours ensuring we are truly helping your animal.

It’s 🥵. And we’re not just talking about the competition this summer. After a hard schooling session or a long ride, one of the last things you want to do is stay out in the heat. But, before you can cool off yourself, you have to cool off your horse.

Horses handle cold weather much better than hot weather, so cooling down in the summer months is extremely important. Learn how you can help cool your horse when riding during these hot summer months:

⭐ Exercises to strengthen your horse's hind end ⭐

It's important to incorporate these exercises slowly into your horse's routine. You don't want to over face or fatigue them. Strength and fitness does not happen in 1-2 weeks, it is a long term commitment. If your horse has a history of joint dysfunction, discuss with your vet and bodyworker on how to correctly incorporate these exercises.

🦄ALL of these exercises should be done with a low head position and soft neck! 🦄

🌟Pole work🌟
Start by using 4 poles 2.5 feet apart at the walk. This will engage the core and hind end, without too much concussion on the joints. By starting at the walk you are also activating your horse's postural muscles. This is a great exercise to incorporate in your 15 minute walk warm up.

At the trot, you can place 4-5 poles 4.5 feet apart and create a figure eight pattern with the poles in the center. This will engage the core and hind end while creating bend in the ribcage.

🌟Hill Work🌟
Please be cautious of your horse's current fitness with this exercise!!!
Start with a slight incline, rather than a large hill! A slight incline will engage more postural muscles and encourage correct hind end engagement. Once your horse has mastered the slight incline, you can introduce a larger hill. Keep this fun for them and be mindful of your position on their back during this exercise.

🌟Backing Up🌟
The best kept secret for hind end health! This exercise is great for mobilizing the pelvis, lumbar and thoracic area while engaging the core.

The KEY is to keep your horse's head low with a soft neck, then back 5-6 steps then walk forward. If the neck is braced with a high head, you are creating tension. Master this exercise on the ground before asking for it under saddle.
The next level of this exercise is to ask for them to back up a gentle incline, this will give them an extra "crunch" through the core and more pelvis mobility.

🌟Canter Transitions🌟
Start with trot to canter transitions, building up to walk to canter transitions. This exercise encourages your horse to push from behind while lifting through the core. Keep this exercise fun, if it becomes a drill your horse will anticipate it and brace creating tension.

Create a figure eight pattern with a transition in the middle. You could also incorporate ground poles into this exercise by setting 3-4 poles up 4.5 feet apart in the middle of the arena, canter a large circle, coming down into the trot 10 feet before the poles, trot through the poles, then pick up the opposite lead canter, and repeat the exercise that direction.

Have fun!! And don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!! 💜

“When in disease, look to the spine first” -Hippocrates

I love checking all the ranges of motion a horse can and can not do!

I start with the pelvis to make sure they can laterally flex both sides, flex and extend their lower back and pelvis. This is where I find issues with the p***c bone alignment and gelding scar tension.

A lot of times, we think to inject the hock or the stifle which does work. BUT, when your horse is being injecting over and over and over….we must consider the possibility that the pelvis may be misaligned or stuck in a pattern which is interfering with the signal to the legs.

If you would like a full body exam to check ranges of movement plus a stretch/adjustment for your horse, cow, goat, donkey or more, send me a PM and let’s work together!

This is Blossom 🏵️🌸🌼❇️
Her parents drive 2 hours one way to see me. After driving all over California and to multiple specialists, no one could figure out why she was constantly in pain that drugs weren't touching. They advised her to put her to sleep. As a last hope, they tried chiropractic! She could barely walk, and just would lay there crying.
A few adjustments later and she is a normal puppy that won't sit still for photos, is playing with her humans and puppy siblings, and is back to normal 💕

I love my job, and cases like this are why 💓🙌🐾

Sweet Greta was hit by a car and had had major surgery to plate her hip.

She has nerve damage to her left hind limb which is severe enough to be discussing amputation.

Due to her inability to put any weight on her left leg, the rest of her body has compensated. Rather than her spine being straight, it looks like a C.

Chiropractic is being utilized to return some function to her low back as well as relieve pain.

Her parents report that after one adjustment, she had lots of energy and was moving much better 💕

Let your child have a bad ride.
I know you want to protect them from the hardships of this world.
I know you want to give them success and good experiences.
I know you don't want to see them get hurt. To see them fall. To see them fail.
But, hear me out, let your child have a bad ride.

Let them cry the tears of frustration.
Let them shake the sand out from the inside of their riding pants.
Let them face the fear building inside of them.
Let them step back on again.

Yes, let your child have a bad ride.
Let them hate the horse that challenges them.
Let them learn what fight and passion and ambition mean.
Let them realize that when they refuse to quit the horse will take the time to listen.

Grant them the joy of realizing that they are connecting with another living being.
Grant them the joy of realizing that they, although they are small, can be powerful.
Grant them the joy of seeing their hard work pay off, through the days of tears can come a love unspeakable.

Yes, let your child have a bad ride.
Afterall, life will grant us plenty of them.

*not my words or picture, but I loved them so much I just had to share.*

Sweet, old Oscar is having a little limp! Dachshunds typically suffer from issues in their mid back. Because they are so long, gravity wrecks havoc on their thoracic spines 🌭

It is important to know what issues your breed of dog typically suffers from so that you can prevent these issues rather than react to them ☺️

These two got their regular adjustments this morning!

Ruby loved her adjustment even if she looks grumpy 😂

She was even scratching and petting her owner during her adjustment which was a big deal because she’s never done that before! Ever!
