The ANIMAL SHELTER in Didim belongs to the Didim Belediyesi. They ARE NOT a CHARITY, it is a council run animal shelter for spay neuter and release and ownerless animals needing medical veterinary treatments ... it IS NOT a REHOMING CENTRE .. ANYONE over 18 years of age can adopt from the shelter, you just need a TC kimlik or a residency permit. They take your personal contact details and your address. BUT they DONOT arrange home or people checks.
IF anyone ADOPTS/ FOSTERS a dog through us CoDA , we do carry out home checks, we visit the homes personally and keep in contact. Even if the dog is going to the UK .. we know our transporter personally and are in constant contact before, during and after the long journey overland from here in Turkey to the 4ever home in the Uk. We have Team CoDA UK who deals with and arranges everything necessary their end.
Please do not assume .. nothing in Turkey regarding animals bares the slightest resemblance of what happens in the UK.
As a charity in Turkey but British run we work within the realms of the Animal Turkish Law 5199. And we do everything that is possibly possible .
We DO NOT have a private kennels, grounds or holding areas.
But please remember, we are all volunteers .. our time is given free , we have no jurisdiction over the law or any animal related issues in Turkey .... these have to be taken up with the local authorities.
From our own experiences we can offer help guidance and assistance as and when we can.

This is Box (Nel) yesterday at the shelter.
She is a very nervous 6 month old kangal bitch puppy.
She is mix vaccinated.
Not microchipped
Not spayed.
She has erhlicia a tick blood disease for which she is being treated.
She needs a 4ever home, preferably with no other dogs as she didnt get on with a small terrier.
This is an URGENT plea.
Ideally you will know something about the Kangal breed.
Please think carefully .. she is already a big girl. She will get bigger. Kangals need space , outside space, they are working dogs by origin.

This is Lola, she was adopted from the shelter. Few days in she was banned to the garden, a kitchen cupboard for a house.
Now 3.5 months later with winter, wet rain and cold weather on the horizon, they dont want her in the garden or the house.
She is vaccinated. But not chipped or spayed.
SHE DESPERATELY NEEDS A NEW 4EVER HOME.

This little boy terrier was taken to the shelter believed to be in a RTA.
Needing an xray, we were asked to sponsor him.
His xray was inconclusive because of bad swelling.
So he is in foster for 15 days and then will return for another xray.
His foster mum has called him Teddy.
She says he's definitely been an owned dog. Hes still a puppy. Prefers being in the house and goes mad at the sight of a lead.

We went yesterday to see the Kaymakam in Didim. The powers that be need to put it to the Turkish Goverment that there is a NEED to set a criteria for foreign volunteer groups collecting money whether it be for animals or people. A set of rules that we would strictly adhere to.
The animals in Turkey have a raw deal .. imagine how bad it will get.
THIS AFFECTS ALL GROUPS NOT JUST CoDA

Its come to a sad time in our 6 years as CoDA when we have a big big decision to make ...
As some of you maybe aware 2 weeks ago a post on fb by Fulya Köyşuren, a local solicitor giving advice about the implication of ' the illegal collection of monies, donations, by foreigners for charities '.
It also didn't help when GILLY FOREMAN who no longer lives in Turkey sticks her oar in shouting CoDA and illegal money all over facebook ... well GILLY FOREMAN you can congratulate yourself .. the animals of the Didìm municipality will now suffer because of YOU.

We have looked into all the options.
1 a regisrered charity.....
To start you need 7 turkish citizens
An office where you have receipts to prove that you pay rent
An annual turnover of atleast 250,000tl
Each year the number of members, being turkish, increases
And you are required to submit your accounts of which a taxable amount is deducted 😪
OR
2. We could join DiHAD and work under their umbrella BUT we can't use our name CoDA so theoretically we just merge and disappear 😪
OR
3.There is a council association made up of smaller volunteer groups which you can affiliate too.
Here We could if accepted continue fundraising BUT not using CoDA and we give all our money to the association telling them how we would like it spent.
And CoDA would disappear.😪

As a non association it is also illegal to advertise anything that we might be doing in Turkey asking for donations on facebook, in newspapers in fact in or on any social media.

We cannot produce our calendars with our name and logo.

We in Turkey cannot exist as CoDA

We can however because our paypal is UK based continue to accept these monetary gifts.

And lastly as a non association we cannot have ANY event easter christmas , boxing day etc hosted by us CoDA.
They would have to be hosted by the bar/restaurant that was used who could then give the funds raised to the street & shelter animals but not to CoDA .

It is a very sad to announce this especially on World Animal Day
But it seems there is no way around it.

We were told ' carry on regardless' BUT if somebody makes a complaint they would have no choice but to investigate.

This is a risk that we are not prepared to take

DO YOU RECOGNİSE THİS TERRİER: OR KNOW HİS OWNER.
We had to pop into the shelter this afternoon,
We were talking to Sevgi (the vet on duty today) when she told us about this little terrier, He had been involved in a road traffic accident. (Cumhuriyet Mahallesi Cumhuriyet Caddesi) We asked for him to go to Furry Friends for an X-ray. The x-ray showed no visual broken bones. Nezih (The vet) said he just needs 15 days rest. Then Nezih said he will check him again.
We have found a foster home for his 15 days rest.
After this we realy don't want him to go back to the shelter.
So if you recognise this little fellow, or you know his owner. Please contact us.

DOES ANYONE RECOGNISE THIS BEAUTIFUL MALE SETTER
In the last 2 days he has appeared in Efeler Mahallesi near to Monalisa Pizzaria.
He is very timid and shy. The restaurant owners have tried to feed him but the resident street dogs won't allow and have attacked him.
He is not a street dog, someone must be missing him.. if you were his neighbour and you know something please can you PM the page.

This is Lipton
He is a very friendly poodly doodly. He gets on with other dogs and people. His only problem is that at the moment he doesnt want to share. Hes fine until YOU want to take HIS bowl.
But we must remember he came from the shelter and spent 5 mths in boarding. He doesnt know any boundaries ... yet ... he will learn ... and we dont know history..... hes never had to share .... if only he could talk.
He is totally ready to travel to Europe.

URGENT HOME WANTED.
This is Boldie. He is a 1 year old Male Cane Corsa Italiano. His owner doesnt want him and was going to send him to the shelter, so his neighbours have come to his rescue.
He is very smart and clever, he gets on with all cats dogs and people and is very calm natured and in need of lots of TLC. He is fully vaccinated

These 2 little dogs need homes ASAP.
Their owner is very ill and needs to return home. Unfortunately they will have to go into sheltered housing and the dogs cannot go with them.
In this crazy world of uncertainty, no one knows what's around the corner and no one no matter how much they think they can , can never say never.
They are old girls, one suffering epileptic fits which isccontrolled with medication. And just need a spot to live their days.

A terrier type doggie
Just waitng for that kind person to give me the chance, to help me make that first step out of the shelter.
It can be as short as a month to see me through the vaccination period, mix and kennel cough, so that I can go to the pet otel or as long as 5 months while I prepare to travel to the UK to my 4ever home.
My rescuers will pay all my expenses, all you need do is keep me safe, teach me a few home rules and maybe a little bit of english.

This is Ben, a 3 yrs old male Chow mix.
He has the blue tongue trait of a Chow.
He is microchipped and neutered.
He was rescued off the streets of Izmir where he had been abandoned by previous owners about a year ago.
He is very gentle, infact the perfect dog in every way except he likes to bark and bark, even if he hears other dogs in the distance.
Sadly the lady who has him and loves him dearly needs to find him a new home, preferably where neighbours are distant.

A little girl,, kangal mix, about 6weeks old.
She eats for Turkey.
We took her to FF for a check. She had worm and flea treatment. Tuesday she goes for her mix vaccination.
She urgently needs a 4ever home otherwise in 2 weeks time she will go to the shelter
Nezih called her Box for her records.

all her injection/ vaccinations are up to date and entered into her book.
she is microchipped.
Not sure if speyed
She knows her name, she nearly does backflips when you call her
