Resting time // Hora do descanso

🇬🇧 Resting is an essential part of training foals. Doing many small sessions prevents the foals from getting tired of us and gives them time to process what they've been taught. It's also a good indicator that they feel safe around us because, as they are naturally preys, they don't relax if they don't feel safe.

🇵🇹 O descanso é essencial no treino dos poldros. Fazer várias sessões de curta duração evita que os poldros fiquem saturados e dá-lhes tempo para assimilarem o que aprenderam. Também é um bom parâmetro para saber que se sentem confortáveis na nossa presença pois, sendo naturalmente presas, não relaxam se não se sentirem seguros.

Foals are naturally curious and we can use that in our advantage to start handling them from a young age. The first time you handle a horse should be a good experience because we want them to see us humans as a good thing. Sometimes a foal needs to be seen by a veterinarian or a ferrier at an early age, in those cases you want a foal that can already be catched, lead and will stay calmly still while being seen. If the breeding mares are well handled, the foal can start being handled before being weaned which gives us a more confident foal to work with as it will feel safe around it's mom.
This process is achieved without violence and as stress free as possible. The result is a trusting relationship where the foal chooses to be with us and to do what we ask him without fear.

Os poldros são naturalmente curiosos, e podemos usar isso a nosso favor para começar o maneio desde cedo. O primeiro maneio deve ser uma experiência positiva pois queremos que os cavalos associem a presença humana a algo bom. Por vezes é necessaria a intervenção veterinária ou do ferrador nos primeiros meses do poldro e, nesses casos, é de grande valor ter um poldro que se deixe apanhar e conduzir facilmente e fique calmo enquanto está a ser visto. Quando as éguas são mansas, podemos começar o maneio dos poldros antes da desmama e, assim, trabalhar com um animal mais confiante pois a mãe transmite-lhe segurança.
Este processo é feito sem violência e causando o menor stress possível aos poldros. O resultado é uma relação de confiança em que os poldros escolhem estar connosco e fazer o que lhes pedimos sem medo.
