ParbatiBarua India’s 1st Female Mahout Honoured With Padma Shri award Parbati Barua from Royal family (Gauripur)

Parbati Barua is the only female mahaut in the world. She has been taming wild elephants since she was 14. Hailing from the erstwhile royal family of Gauripur, Parbati has dedicated her life to taking care of elephants as a member of the Asian Elephant Specialist Group, IUCN.

The Kolkata International Film Festival gave Prabhati a Lifetime Achievement Award for her commendable work on wildlife conservation.

Parbati Barua also has a BBC documentary based on her life, along with a companion book named Queen of Elephants.
