Little man knows over 50 cues now!! He is being trained to alert to the three classic scents for scent detection (birch, anise, clove) and he has 5 props that he knows quite a few tricks with, his: street board, longboard, wobble board, small pedestal and tiny piano! I’ve been super busy with moving the past couple months but I can’t wait for the content we have planned 🤩

• A Toast Pupdate! •
Toast is now a little over 10 months old, he is such a smart dog and I’m having a blast teaching him all sorts of new tricks 🥳 Puberty is hitting hard and I found myself getting frustrated with his sniffier and more distracted demeanor 😅 we have gone back to rewarding a lot of basics and a lot more of “nothing”. Instead of so much pressure on his training I’ve taken a back seat to do more fun stuff as well instead which has helped me remember the fun in training and not just stressing about his progress. Training is supposed to be fun, not stressful, for everyone!

As much as I love the idea of letting my pup run off-leash with his buddies, I know that his recall is not solid! Instead of setting my dog up for failure, I opt for the trusty long line. When I can’t be sure my dog is going to be successful, I don’t want to ask him to demonstrate those skills!
Off-leash recall, like any other skill, is much more complex than just teaching your dog to come back to you. You have to be confident in their ability to ignore a multitude of distractions (environment, sounds, smells, other animals, etc) as well as knowing that your dog will absolutely follow through on recall immediately!
When working with clients, I teach them to learn how to asses their dogs ability to be successful during training and outings as well as working through a checklist of different distractions and environments! Recall is a vital skill and most importantly, we want to make sure we set our dogs up for success and keep them safe!

Toast was so excited to get some treats from !! He literally tried to tear the bag open 😂 I am so glad I was introduced to this brand they are phenomenal! Not only do they care about your dogs health, they also use upcycled ingredients to help cut down on food waste! These treats are also very affordable and break apart easily. There isn’t more I (or Toast) could ask for in a treat!

This photo shows very little but is a huge win I have had with my client, Jack. For most of my clients they need help with things like barking, reactivity, puppy training or leash behavior, it isn’t very often I’m faced with behaviors I haven’t handled before. I have a pair of siblings I work with that are extremely fearful. They are a good but extreme example of what Covid puppies turn into and I have been working with them going on 4 months now. When I originally started working with them, their owners asked that I be able to teach them to walk on a leash outside, this very quickly proved to be the least of my concerns when working with them. While on leash they wouldn’t come within 12 feet of me, follow me on a leash and would be barking or growling obviously very uncomfortable with me being there. Over the past four months I have been able to see tremendous growth in these pups, so much so that they not only take treats outside but also from my hand (on good days!). These pups have continued to teach me so much and how to think outside the box to keep making progress, and I cannot wait to see how they continue to grow from here!

They’re matching 🥹
It’s almost been a whole month with this goober!! I am constantly blown away by his personality and how much improvement and growth I’ve seen over the past 3 weeks ☺️ juggling a new puppy, my clients and a social life is keeping me busy (but never too busy for new clients! I’m still taking virtual and in person 🥰)

Last week I had a whole day of doodle training! They are so cute but I find it fascinating when I’m consulting with new clients who have a doodle puppy consistently, their main issues and concerns are: demand barking and biting/nipping (HARD). I wonder why that is, as pretty much all puppies deal with these issues however I’ve noticed doodles consistently need professional intervention to curb these behaviors. On the flip side when working with these puppies I do notice how incredibly intelligent they are and just how quickly they pick up new cues and catch onto new behavior patterns! I can see the appeal of these cute, fluffy monsters and their very sweet and cuddly nature (in their calm time).

This may not seem like much, but to me, this was one of the biggest wins with Jack! I am training him and his sister for their extreme fear of strangers. At the first lesson I was unable to get Jack to come within 15 feet of me. While still nervous and unsure of my presence, he has made tremendous progress in just four lessons alone! Now he will come up and sniff me when I come over, he will follow me on leash and stay near me if I sit down or make sudden movements! With his fear and stress, he was not taking any treats, thus training has happened slowly, given the circumstances so much progress without treat/toy reinforcement and zero punishment involved!! Very excited to see where the next few weeks takes us in terms of progress.

One of my favorite services I offer are regular or structured walks! I love getting to walk in new neighborhoods with my clients and it is such a fun and calm time to be with my clients. Swae (left) and Bert (right) are clients of mine for behavioral training but I also get to walk them 5 days a week and work on their leash behavior as well! I love these two little nuggets, always such a joy 🥰
