Today is National Cat Day! Although we love our domesticated furry friends, we wanted to remind everyone that it’s important to keep these household pets indoors for their own safety and for the safety of surrounding wildlife. We all know that cats are natural hunters, and due to this instinct they can have a devastating effect on local wildlife.

For example, it’s estimated that free-roaming cats kill between 1.3 and 4.0 billion birds, and between 6.3 and 22.3 billion mammals annually in the US (from a study by the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service).

Not only does it negatively affect wildlife, but cats are at risk as well! As smaller animals, they can be seen as prey by foxes, coyotes, and even raptors. They are also at a higher risk to get rabies, or other diseases from animals they may catch and eat.

While we celebrate felines and know they bring a ton of joy to their households, it’s important that we know the possible risks of letting them roam free, and suggest trying alternative enrichment activities like leash training them or building them a catio space so they can enjoy the outdoors safely.

Archer is independent, Achilles is active , Allspice is a good combo of playful and snugly , Apple is Baby, Aurelia is a potato , Alice is a rough and tumble lady , And Autumn has all the catitude you would expect from a calico.

The A Team is a group of playful, talkative, loving bottle babies. They have lots of energy so I highly recommend that you adopt two or have another cat at home that they can play with. They are good with other cats, large dogs, and kids.

These babies will be 9 weeks old, have 2/3 of their annual vaccinations, and a clear f***l test by the time they're ready to go home with you. You'll need to make sure they get spayed or neutered and receive their rabies vaccines.

*Aurelia was born with an eyelid deformity that does not prevent her from seeing or living her best life.

Adoption updates!

Falafel went home today with family friends and Florida Man went home yesterday with the perfect family for him (I have never seen him noodle the way he noodled yesterday for his new mama).

FizzBuzz, Faith, and Freyja have all been adopted as well.

I'll make a separate post soon about who is left in the Animal Rescue Project kitten room to be adopted.

Happy lives, loves. (That brings our total to 118 successful adoptions! 😻)

Yeah. Sam, my 13 yo, re-created this photo we took of them as a newborn with their favorite kitten, Aurelia.

TBH, Aurelia was way calmer about the setup than Sam was.

Doing some positive reinforcement training with this beautiful boy. He's been returned to ARP Cats because he was too rough with the young kids in his previous family. He definitely seems like he hasn't had his boundaries respected, and he just doesn't know how to handle that. I'm excited to bring him into the Love Lines Foster Kittens home so he can calm down and feel safe again. Once he's ready, he'll be back up for adoption - or, if you have older kids (or none), and are willing to help train him, feel free to put in an application for him!

Sad news to report this morning:

Our foster baby Fang passed away this morning. It was a quick illness. He had had diarrhea, which is very common in kittens found outside. Lab testing of his f***l sample was clear, but we treated for coccidia and gave him a basic dewormer. But yesterday I knew he was fading fast, so I gave him a calorie booster/ appetite stimulator, subq fluids, & a heating pad and blanket to stay extra warm. I said goodbye to him last night and really didn't think he would make it till the morning, but he did. At that point, I knew he needed to go to the vet, probably to be humanely euthanized, But he didn't make it long enough for them to open.

I was able to give him one last snuggle this morning before he passed.

This is THE hardest part of fostering, when you know something's wrong but all the tests say nothing is, And you do everything in your power to help the kitten, but he still passes.

I know for sure he lived longer than he would have without a mama, hiding under a bush with his siblings. And that's what makes it all better for me. He was loved and cared for and his siblings seem to be doing fine, And they will have great lives in their forever families once they get adopted.

Spay and neuter your pets please. There's plenty of kittens out there and none of them deserve short life that Fang had.
