Cookies From The Heart
The reason behind Cookies By Copper is much more than cookies. Copper, a true Heinz 57 mix of awesomeness, is a rescue. However, like any true rescue parent I always say it is him who saved me. In July of 2017, he moved inside! He is almost 8 years old, and 99% of his life was spent outdoors. He was always loved, but with little experience or money or age (aka I was 12 lol) he did not go to the vet.
In order for him to move with me, he needed to be neutered. Being a young college student, the pricey cost of surgery was daunting. That is until I went to the Cascades Humane Society in Jackson, MI! They offered services at a low cost rate, and they also offered heart worm testing alongside the surgery. So off we went!
The surgery went along fine, but there was 1 little issue. They found that Copper had strong, positive, heart worms. I was shocked! If you were to meet him you wouldn't believe that he was a senior dog. Luckily, a local vet offered help and information with heart worm treatment. After 8-9 months of treatment, bed rest, and snuggles, Copper was retested on May 3rd 2018. He was heart worm NEGATIVE!!
During his recovery he was on strict indoor time, no playing or running :(. However, using treats in toys to keep his brain working served as a wonderful alternative... that is until I found out main stream treats like Milk Bone made him not feel the greatest :(. And the “good” kind are soooo expensive, so I started making him some!
