Name: Beau
Breed: Siberian Husky mix
S*x: Male
Age: 2.5 years
Cats: No
Dogs: Selective
Kids: Yes
Hi there, my name is Beau and I am 2.5 years old. I am here seeking a home that will let me be inside or outside as I see fit. I need a fenced in yard please as I am an escape artist and have previously been hit by a car (thankfully, I am ok!).
I am a pretty typical husky! I am very smart, and am not overly treat motivated. I do know some basic commands, but need to work on my leash walking skills and my recall. Being a smart boy though, it should be fairly easy to train me once you figure out ways to work around my intelligence and stubbornness. I would love to learn under your guidance, and possibly the guidance of a trainer.
I am house-trained and crate trained! I typically eat my breakfast and my dinner in my crate. My 3 sisters and I do not share food bowls, so I am not sure how I would be if that was asked of me. I donât show any sign of food aggression while outside, so I might be able to adapt to that in time. I do like to dig holes when I am outside, and am destructive if left alone inside the house and not in a crate.
I live with 3 female dogs, and have not been interacted with any male dogs, so I have no idea how I would be with a male dog. A meet and greet would be required with any prospective new family pets to ensure we get along. Please, no cats. I live with children and am good with them, so I can be with children!
I currently live as an indoor/outdoor dog, and my family believes I would thrive best in this type of arrangement. I am inside at night, and in a barn during the work day. I then get time in the yard to run around with the other dogs, or inside the house if it is not a work day. I think with a bit of adjustment, and enough exercise, I could adapt to full-time house life, though!
If you think you are able to provide a stimulating environment for a husky, please apply for me today!
I am neutered and up to date on all of my vaccinations. My adopter will be provided with an already registered microchip to have inserted by their veterinarian as I am not yet microchipped. I am ready to go home with you!

30+ dogs NEED YOU!!! We are turning dogs away every single day, knowing their unfortunate fate. Unfortunately, we cannot take any more in until we either find fosters or adopters for the dogs we currently have.
Sadly, we have recently had a couple of approved applications bail on adopting as they all wanted the same dog. PLEASE be understanding that only one person can have the dog, and PLEASE be open to suggestions on other dogs that could very likely fit just as well in your home! I have been doing this for over a decade now and have a good sense on each dog and the responses to the applications give me a good read on the applicant. I would not be suggesting unsuitable dogs to each application.
Unfortunately, the same thing that is happening with Marvin currently, also happened with Leo earlier this year. All the applications wanted Leo and absolutely no one wanted Sally. A very similar dog, and just as worthy of life, but when suggested to applications - completely rejected. Everyone right now wants Marvin, and absolutely no one wants Nova2 or Timber, who are both good with cats!
We do understand that people get drawn to a certain dog, however please note that being open-minded to other dogs that could potentially fit your home will get you that much closer to welcoming a suitable dog into your home. In fact, in many cases, being open-minded and open to discussion about other potential dogs, will get you that much closer to adopting the dog you truly want/need! Dialogue and discussion goes a long way!
Additionally, due to several applications either not responding to emails informing them of passing the home visit and moving on to the next step being unanswered, and other applications disappearing and not responding for a week once dialogue is open, we recently implemented a 72-hour rule. If you do not respond to emails within 72 hours, your application is automatically discarded and we move on to the next.
We need truly SERIOUS and EAGER adopters. Not tire-kickers. The dogs need true COMMITMENT. If you're not truly serious and delay responding to emails, the serious adopters get tired of waiting and go elsewhere. You are wasting valuable time and resources. PLEASE follow-through with your application, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be open-minded to other dogs! We cannot include every little detail about a dog on their bio. But, our fosters and owners can help you make the best decision for your family with our guidance!
If you are truly SERIOUS about adopting a dog, please visit our website and submit an application right now! We have so many very deserving dogs sitting for several months, or even years, that no one wants to even inquire about and it is destroying us! The dogs deserve forever homes!

Woohoo, wishlist contributions! Thank you Donna MacDonald!
Casper is still waiting patiently in a partner shelter for his forever home,.or even a foster home. He's not doing well in the shelter environment, as many huskies don't :(
He needs to be the only pet, but is so loving! Won't you give him a chance?
Nova2 is another near perfect dog! Her only requirement is someone home all the time! Dog/cat/kid friendly!

We're putting feelers out to see if anyone is travelling from Ontario to new Brunswick anytime soon? Marvin could be adopted, and have alumni mahekan as a sibling if he can get there!
Specifically, Etobicoke, ON to Dalhousie, NB, but we can travel on either end a bit. Alternatively, we'd need roughly $750 for a flight in cargo. A flight parent would be around $150 to get him there if we can't get him there in a car.
Let us know if you're travelling and willing too give the absolute best dog a lift!

Name: Ashoka
Breed: Siberian Husky Mix
S*x: Female
Age: 3 Years
Dogs: Yes - selective
Cats: No
Kids: Yes
Hello Everyone! My name is Ashoka and I am glad to be here in my foster home. I am here seeking a forever home, and would fit into a wide array of home environments. I would just prefer that someone be home more often than not, but am also working on that as well.
I am a sweetheart, and I love children! In fact, I love all humans, especially those that are near me and are readily available to offer me love and affection in the form of snuggles. I think I would love a fairly busy home with kids so that I can get all the affection in the household!
I currently have a best friend named Charlie and sheâs a 3 year old Bichon. We enjoy walks together, sitting on the patio and snuggling on the couch. We get along like the best of friends. Iâm interested in other dogs, but sometimes I get too excited and can intimidate them. Iâm always gentle, just too curious for some other dogs to handle. Initially, I was not a fan of other dogs, but I have settled in and am showing better interactions with other dogs. A meet and greet will be required if I am to live in a home with other dogs. A patient and understanding home is also necessary to help me get over the intial new home hurdles and set my new friend and I up for success. I have not met cats, but have a high prey drive, so a home without cats is best.
I am not very vocal, and am currently in foster in a townhouse without a fenced-in backyard, so I could live in just about any type of home! I will verbally let you know when someone is at the door, or if I need to go out. I walk well on the leash and Iâm learning not to pull. I can get excited when I see other dogs, squirrels and bunnies.
I am a smart girl and will be able to train up well with some treats and patience. I can sit and lay down on command but Iâm still learning how to stay as well as other obedience commands. I am house trained! I am still working on crate training, and Iâm starting to love my crate, but I donât like being left alone for long periods.
I like my toys and am learning how to play fetch. I am a good girl overall, and if you think you have what I need in a home environment, I would love to read your application and meet your family! The more snuggles and quality time you can offer, the better!
I am up to date on my DHPP and bordetella vaccinations and microchipped. I am will be adopted on a strict non-breeding and spay agreement. I am booked for my spay and rabies vaccination on August 21st in Kitchener, as I came into heat as soon as I was rescued!
⢠Located in Kitchener, ON â $500 adoption fee - $250 rebate if spayed elsewhere.

Name: Wilson
Breed: Siberian Husky X
S*x: Male
Age: 7 years
Cats: No - untested
Dogs: Yes - submissive only
Kids: No
Hi there, the name is Wilson! I am described as a loyal, loving and affectionate boy and I am looking for a forever home without small kids. Wilson will do well in a household with experience understanding dogs that were previously abused due to his experience when he was younger.
I love going for walks, or any kind of adventure with my human. Car rides, walk, jog, snowshoe, hike? I will happily go with you! I adore human companionship and love people once the trust is built between us. I am leary of new people sometimes, in particular men. I was a very scared and timid dog, however I have come a long way since my current family rescued me from Northern Ontario in 2018. Once I trust you, I am the sweetest most affectionate, endearing and empathetic dog you will ever meet.
However, I am known to panic when people approach me too quickly and energetically. It is suggested to introduce me to new people at a slow pace and with care as I still have fear based triggers from my earlier life. I do have 1 bite history previously as a result of this, as I was scared and was defending my loved ones. I will not be placed in a household with small kids as I am pretty unpredictable. I have been kept away from kids in my current home, as sudden touches and jumping do scare me.
I also love canine companionship. Like a typical husky, I play rough and sometimes it could be loud. However, I am known to be comfortable with other dogs once I settle down. While I love going on adventure with you, I am also pretty flexible in the house, either indoor or outdoor. If youâre an outdoor person camping or enjoy the beaches, I will definitely be your new best friend! I am very vocal and enjoy either a group howl or communicate with you all the time, so a detached house would be ideal. I am house trained, but am not crate trained. I am, however, fine in the home for a full work day without getting into mischief.
I have never lived with a cat, but do display a prey drive when I go on a walk. Let's stick with a household without a feline friend to avoid any accidents. While I have never had any formal training, my family think I am actually quite intelligent! I know many commands like sit, stay, come, lay down and am always patient upon food time. I even walk well on leash, and respond to reminders to heel! I really am a good boy, I just need the right home please!
I am neutered, up to date on my vaccinations, and microchipped. I am ready to go home with you!

After 363 days in foster care and moving fosters a few times, as well as a failed trial adoption trial, Louna is now officially adopted!
Thank you, Cathy and Romeo for fostering her the last 11 months and ultimately deciding to adopt her!
2024 is off to a fabulous start, with Mya now in foster care and Louna being the first adoption!
How much do dogs LOVE our $30 pawboxes?! Enough to destroy the shipping box as soon as they arrive! Enough to chew a leash while in the car with one. Enough that they need to be stored up high (fridges are a common place!).
If you don't have yours yet, come on our to Peticure Paws at 2233 Bostock Cres in Mississauga and pick one up for your pooch, or one on your list! There are still 175 there for sale! Not in Mississauga and don't mind getting yours after Christmas? Let us know your dog size, and we'll bring one back for you when we are there on Sunday - just pay the shipping on top of the box!
Adoptable Xena in the video can't wait for hers, so what are you waiting for?
Please bear with us as we will not be responding to messages, emails, etc this weekend. Except for the mom and 5 pups rescue which is underway for tomorrow! We are saying goodbye to one of our hospice dogs today.
Tessa arrived at a month shy of 11 years old. She had been left in a house when her owner sold it!!! Through a network of 2 awesome ladies, she found her way to me! She's bitten so many times, been banned from the province of Nova Scotia for her biting, hospitalized 2 of the immediate team members for bites going septic... and this morning GAVE ME LOTS OF HAND KISSES!!!! That absolutely melted my heart!
Dr. Singh is coming at 1pm sweetheart. Your body failed you, but your spirit hasn't. I'm sorry life can end so abruptly. You made it clear in the wee hours of the morning that today is the day. I spent as much time with you as I could before work this morning, and will do the same after work before Dr. Singh comes.
Her first rescuer, Jennifer, will be receiving her ashes when they are ready. I will keep her collar and a chunk of fur. Jennifer is paying for her cremation â¤ď¸

SMART
I, Melissa Van Grootel, started out in rescue in 2009. Initially, I was a cross-poster and had an archived list of every husky/malamute/alaskan I could find on pet finder, adoptapet, petharbour, and various other places for people to be able to see them all in one place. From cross-posting, I moved to arranging transports for various rescues and individuals until 2 groups took over the transport network and took the rescue world by storm with their amazing abilities. Near the end of my reign as a transport coordinator, I started fostering. Fostering started as overnighting dogs who were on transport, and moved to when my rescue life really began.
In August, 2014, almost a year after moving to the country, I took on 11 Alaskan Huskies as foster dogs for a rescue group. 11 dogs at once in addition to my then 8 seemed like a lot of work at first. Little did I know, those Alaskan Huskies would be difficult to adopt out as they were all retired sled dogs and didnât have the typical âhusky lookâ that is so sought after. The first of that batch of foster dogs was not adopted until a little over 4 months of them arriving, and the last of them were transferred to other rescues, with a few adoptions in there, after almost 8 months.
Immediately after that batch left, I stepped into action to assist a fellow musher in doing a drastic downsizing in 2014/2015. In this particular case, the majority of the dogs stayed with the owner until they were adopted. I posted the photos and wrote the bios for each dog, and every applicant went through the adoption process. Only, instead of me making the decision where dogs go, the owner made that call. Each dog was adopted on a contract that required dogs be returned to the owner if things did not work out.
As I was finishing up that mission, and struggling to rehome the last couple of dogs, Alaskan Huskies once again, I was approached by a rescue which hadnât operated in years, in March 2016. If I accepted the offer to run that rescue as I was already running mine, it would allow doors to open having an official name, and funding would be an option, should I accept the offer. I accepted the offer, and ran that rescue successfully until June 2018 when circumstances beyond control caused a break-up.
I took a couple of month âbreakâ, but still networked dogs and took in returned dogs as per contract. At the end of August, I was alerted to a super sweet girl in a shelter that needed help, and I decided I was ready to start up again. I pulled her with the assistance of another rescue, got her into foster-to-adopt, and so began my brand new rescue all over again.
I pondered for awhile on a name, and operated under my kennel name for the time being, until a name finally popped into my head. SMART. Siberian Malamute Alaskan Rescue Team. Why SMART? Well, There are never enough Siberian Rescues in Canada. There is only one other Malamute rescue in Ontario, and there is NO Alaskan Husky Rescue in Ontario. These three breeds are not the easiest to adopt and typically all-breed rescues and shelters donât fully understand them. These three breeds are also super SMART. Two meanings in one! SMART dogs being rescued the SMART way.
Here at SMART, we assist owners who can keep their dogs with them until a home is found, we also do shelter intakes based on foster availability and suitability for each dog, and we crosspost for other rescues/shelters. We list dogs across North America, and can do physical intakes from Ontario, Michigan (extreme North only), Wisconsin, North Dakota, Montana, northern Idaho, Nebraska, Oregon and Washington at this time. Adopters/surrenders must meet transport along this corridor at the date/time set out by transport, regardless of day or night. We also provide education, not just on the differences between the three breeds and how to keep them, but even on general dog-related issues. We attend various events all year long and are happy to spread our wealth of knowledge with you. How can we assist you?
