Multiple foxes seen to safety, hounds mark to ground at badger sett & terrier men caught netting and bagging fox
Together with our friends Kent Hunt Sabs and South Coast Hunt Sabs, we paid a visit to the Kent Hounds. Based on their movements in years gone by, we predicted their route and positioned ourselves accordingly. Surely enough, a fox broke covert from a small woodland by Puckstone Farm in full pursuit of hounds. Giving the fox extra time, our foot team was at hand to rate hounds off and continued to stop their attempts at retracing the line.
After rounding the hounds up the hunt moved south to the Newnham Valley, east of Wickhambreaux, mainly keeping to the road as their land access has dwindled over time. Furthermore, seeing the hunt staff, riders and car supporters travelling together reveals how small of a hunt they have become - especially embarrassing as the last fox hunt in all of Kent.
Hunting resumed in the south of the valley where hounds picked up a scent on multiple occasions, resulting in the pack splitting and could be seen in all directions. Hounds were left unattended for a considerable amount of time, going in and out of cry and at one point, had marked to ground at an active badger sett. It was in this area that at least two foxes had been spotted by our vehicle team, who pushed them away from the direction of the hunt and hounds.
The rest of the day saw the hunt cast hounds in and out of the swamp and pockets of trees around Newnham Valley area, zig-zagging as much as possible. Saboteurs remained present for the majority of time, despite the confused efforts of hunt supporter and wannabe-bully-boy Nathan Gilbert aka ‘Giblet’. The hunt kept moving off on arrival of our team as well as the presence of sab groups present, though hounds continued to be hunted on. After little luck, and an embarrassing display of the huntsman and hunt staff attempting to round up hounds only metres away from them, the hunt made one last attempt and hunted on the footpath that leads along the east side of reservoir, eventually making a final draw of a nearby woodland. Accompanied, of course, by a group of terrier men on 3x quad bikes with boxes on (containing terriers and spades). They too were driving on the public footpath which is also naughty!
Keeping ourselves well positioned, we kept with them until they concluded to draw a blank and head back to the meet, packing up at around 4pm.
Though we are confident that no kills took place, Kent Hunt Sabs have captured some damning and upsetting drone footage of terrier men netting and bagging a fox, which they will publish soon.
We would like to once again thank everyone who has supported us following the attack by Hursley Hambleton Hunt on our team. As mentioned before, we aren’t going anywhere.
