The Heeling Stick! A nifty way to transition to off leash walks. Not used enough these days!
The plumber's house has leaky pipes; the mechanic's car backfires and smokes; the dog trainer's dog DOES EVERYTHING IN HER POWER TO DEFY HIM! 😁
Dolly is 9 months now. Still the baby of the family, but it is time to start tightening up her obedience.
Dolly, our great dane puppy 3 months old now. I'd like my clients to know that I am being reminded what it's like to own a brand new puppy. They can be so bad but so cute, and when its your own puppy, and no time hack to train them, it can be challenging. and so i wake up at odd hours to take her outside to potty, and she has accidents, cuz i try to shortcut and not kennel her when i should: and she chews up a few household items, and she steals my shoes, and the tv remote sometimes....and she likes to be carried, but she's getting heavy. I love her and its cool to experience the difference from training a client's dog.
Dolly, our Great Dane Puppy; 8 weeks old.
our new member of the family. This was her first time on the leash. She's got spirit thats for sure. I think she's more difficult than Dio (my 3 yr old dane) when he was that age, but he'll help us teach her. He's a big brother now.
Stella, the labrador puppy; Day 12:
her last day. She did very well. We even got into off leash training. I'll miss her a little bit. 😁
Stella, black lab puppy; Day 4
We'd been working her re-call short distances, and I always set her up for success. This was my first attempt at a longer distance while a bit distracted by odors. She's doing pretty good.
Stella, the labrador puppy; Day 2; Leash Guidance
Finn; Day 1 of 3
this little one is fearful of loud noises and such.
He picked up treadmill quicker that many other dogs. Thats gonna help release a lot of tension and anxiety throughout the day.
Muzzle conditioning will help to avoid accidents. Muzzles can be a life saver. Learn to use em properly and use em often.
Kennel/Crate training will be used to keep him safe and out of trouble when I can't watch him.

Teaching STAY command
If they break the stay, immediately give a consequence they understand, move them back to their place and start over.
In this case I made a noise that Senna associates with a leash snap or tap on the e collar. The noise alone was enough, because we've been practicing, and I don't say much else that could confuse her.
If you scold or make sounds they don't really understand, they won't know they made a mistake.
Always give punishment at the lowest level possible. Be ready to match thier intensity, but if we're not reasonable they won't trust us.

IS THIS DOG ALREADY TRAINED? AM I BEING PRANKED?
LOL. I'll find her limitations and get her to the next level. There's more than just commands. Manners, over excitement, and proofing distraction. May be we'll get a couple field trips in this week.
I'll test her in long stays, we'll get her to be more quiet in a kennel, and see about her barking at people and animals.

Gunnar; Last Day
No leash, no ecollar, no treats, pressure washer in the background and somebody's 3 year old bike riding around the cul de sac.
Pardon the video angle, my camera man is a 9 yr old, and I'm no screen director.
We like Gunnar. He's got good work ethic. I'm gonna miss him. With more time we'd take him to public places for exposure and service work.
Gunnar (German Shepherd):
THE WEATHER HAS BEEN CRAZY AROUND HERE. Rain, sunshine, clouds. sun, wind, rain again, and now hail; all the same day; and no we did not "restart video", we went inside!
Anyway Gunnar is a good dog. He's got a lot more focus now. I leash trained him and he's e collar conditioned. We'll see if we can't get another video in before he goes home.
This was Gunnar yesterday. The purpose if this exercise is to work through his stubbornness. He has to walk in the kennel on his own. I give persistent direction with leash tugs but I won't drag or push him in. I dont talk either, dogs don't speak english.
I'm aware I can use treats to lure him, but he needs to practice following a handlers direction whether he likes it or not. It's all good when they feel like listening to you. The problem is when they're not in the mood, or you have no food reward.
We overcome that by showing them we're more patient/stubborn than they are. When they realize your will is stronger and YOU HAVE THEIR BEST INTEREST AT HEART, they will obey quicker.
Trust is a related subject I'll go over some other time.
Gunnar is an interesting dog. He reminds me of the military dogs I trained with. He wants to work. I wonder what he thinks his job is.
There's a lot to say about ...well...he's just got a lot going on. 🤔
We still have a lot to learn about each other.
Gunnar (German Shepherd).
Lesson #1 - don't exit the kennel without permission.
We're also going to get him e collar conditioned for a solid recall and off leash heeling.
Odin(same litter as Bear) did a Board and train after his brother. Here I'm having him calm down before entering the house. No commands, just waiting for him to stop wiggling so much before I gave him what he wanted. Some dogs jump, whine or get nippy when too excited. Odin wasn't that bad but its harder for dogs to remember the rules, mind their manners and follow directions when they're over excited; so we practice things like this as well as teach commands.
Bear and Dio got to be pretty good buddies while he was around. we finished a week and a half ago but I wanted to share a short video. It would be cool to get another play video when he's full grown. Best wishes to little Bear and his handler.
Cato (Cane Corso puppy) is doing a 7 day board and train. This was day 2 I think. He was just getting warmed up to the place and having some free time with Dio (my Great Dane)
