The Cane Corso is considered a “ Head Type” breed. A breed that should be easily recognized by its head type and not confused by any other breed. Some say as this breed became close to extinction, breeding practices included mixing in other breeds due to the low number of available Cane Corso for breeding and to avoid excessive inbreeding. Although often denied, there are often influences of Boxer, Great Dane, various Mastiffs, etc. in Cane Corso lines. Many of the Corso you see today do not replicate the “Cane Corso of Old”. Although our ultimate goal is to breed for “Breed Standard” you will still see the variances in head type that are depicted in our lines. Although a difficult task considering the history, we still strive for consistency.
