We are deeply saddened by the loss of a wonderful person and an incredible veterinarian.

Today, we would like to honor Dr. Suzanne Hanson. She served as one of our in-house veterinarians for shelter animal spay and neuter surgeries for 14 years while simultaneously working at various practices in Chico, most recently at VCA Valley Oak Veterinary Center.

She continued to do surgeries for the shelter after her diagnosis, even trying to make it in during her last weeks. She never gave up and was extremely determined to continue to give her all.

An extraordinarily kind person, always going above and beyond to make sure her patients were treated with the best care and her colleagues with respect. We do not have words to express how amazing she was and how much we appreciate all she did for the community... she will be truly missed.

Our condolences to Dr. Hanson's family, friends, colleagues, and her many patients.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of our own, Dr. Suzanne Hanson, who passed away this week. Dr. Hanson received her veterinary degree from UC Davis and went on to open her own practice here in Chico, Animal Health Care Practice. She joined Mangrove Hospital a few years later and then became a part of Valley Oak Veterinary Center in 2011. Dr. Hanson was an incredible veterinarian and skilled surgeon. She was a dedicated mentor to new veterinarians as well as a passionate advocate for our community serving tirelessly with the City of Chico and Northwest SPCA. Dr. Hanson’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and her unwavering commitment to veterinary medicine. Her absence is already deeply felt and she will be profoundly missed as a colleague, a mentor and a dear friend.

🐶 PUPPIES! 🐶 PUPPIES! 🐶 PUPPIES! 🐶

With so many puppies here, we have decided to extend our puppy adoption event, and though Sat, Aug 24th, all available dogs and puppies will have adoption fees slashed from $150 down to only $20!!

Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, and all vaccinations received while in our care. Qualified adopters must be 18 years of age or older, own their home, or have landlord approval (we will need to speak to the property owner) and have a fenced yard!

Visit our website at www.northwestspca.org to see all available dogs.

Kennels are open M-F from 10am - 4pm (closed for lunch from noon to 1 pm), and Sat from 11am - 3pm. Come on in for a visit!!

This sweet boy came to the shelter as a stray and missing the lower portion of his right rear leg... he was a happy boy, but we could see that the way he depended on his half leg was starting to twist his spine and would likely over time cause more damage. He needed amputation.

The couple who found him fell in love with him and when we later called to tell them that through a partnership with UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, the amputation could be done (as well as his neuter) they were so excited and wanted to adopt him.

His surgery went well, and sweet Kody is headed to his overjoyed furever family!
🧡🐶🧡🐕🧡

Because of your generous donations directly to the Northwest SPCA, we are able to give this type of extra care for dogs like Kody. We truly appreciate all of our monthly, annual, and one-time donators... everything helps us to help the animals here at the shelter. To donate, you can go to our website at www.northwestspca.org and donate via the PayPal button. You can mail your donations to us at 2787 S. 5th Ave., Oroville CA 95965, or pop in for a visit and donate in person. All of your donations directly help the animals here at our shelter. Thank you!

Have you heard?

🐶 Having a dog makes us happier people! 🐶

🐶 Dogs help to keep us healthier! 🐶

🐶 Puppies and dogs teach us about unconditional love! 🐶

We truly want all of this for you, so, this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (August 15, 16, & 17), qualified adopters can adopt any pup up to 1 year of age for only $20... the price of a microchip! 😮 (Usually $150) 😄

We even have some young dogs that have been at the shelter for months with adoption fees waived altogether. Please give these deserving dogs an opportunity to love you 😍!

Come on in and meet your new best friend!🧡
2787 S 5th Ave, Oroville, CA.

Adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchips, and all vaccinations the pet receives while in our care.

A qualified adopter is 18 years of age or older, either owns their home or has landlord permission to adopt a pet... (we will need to speak to whoever owns the property for approval), and for dogs, has a fenced yard. It is also critical that the adopter understands adoption is an 8+ year commitment (depending on the age and breed of pet being adopted). The qualified adopters must be financially ready to care for their new pet.

Kennels are open for visitation M-F from 10am - 4pm (closed for lunch from noon to 1pm) and Saturday from 11am -3pm.

Visit our website at www.northwestspca.org for the most current list of adoptable pets!

Do you know me?

Two more pups from the Del Oro Emergency Animal Shelter due to the Park Fire that are now in our care. Others have been sent to Butte Humane Society in Chico. If you are missing pets from the fire area, please look for them at both locations.

Please share to get them home to their families!

These two will be held for 7 days (more than the legal hold time) in order for those displaced to come in to pick them up. If no one claims, they, too, will be medically evaluated and put up for adoption. Keep an eye on our website.

We are accepting donations for their care as well as the care of all the animals here at the shelter.

Do you know me?

We have some animals that were not picked up from the Del Oro Emergency Animal Shelter due to the Park Fire that are now in our care. Others have been sent to Butte Humane Society in Chico. If you are missing pets from the fire area, please look for them at both locations.

Four of the furbabies are strays (pictured here). Please share to get them home to their families! 🐾💕

Several others have owners who may not be able to care for them any longer. Once confirmed, those furbabies will be medically evaluated and put up for adoption.

These four will be held for 7 days (which is more than the legal hold time) in order for those displaced to come in to pick them up. If no one claims, they, too, will be medically evaluated and put up for adoption. Keep an eye on our website.

WINDY has been adopted!😍

These sweet pups love to play and splash around in their puppy pool! (Please excuse the blurrrrr... they were having too much fun to slow down!💕)

Meet Windy and Zander... Windy is a young female black lab, and Zander, who has been here almost his entire life, is what we call a Heinz 57... we have him listed as an Akita mix, but as he's grown up, he seems possibly cattle dog-ish. Come on in and meet him and let us know what you think! 😄

Windy is such a happy dog! She will make a great hiking and adventure buddy for an active family. She is waggin' and ready to meet you!

Share these sweet babies if you are not ready to adopt at this time!!
