Rescues would be more than happy take in these unwanted cats but we are full of cats and kittens that were in immediate danger of dying had we not taken them in. We committed to helping and healing them and finding them safe, stable homes when they are ready. Safe and stable means plans are put in writing in case the new owner is unable to care for them. If we can do this for every cat and kitten we adopt out, surely you can do this for your own pets. Their life depends on it. These cats were no doubt one of the most important beings to Mom or Auntie or cousin Sue. Please treat them as such. There is no way any of the dozen or so legitimate rescues in our county can take in all of these cats. It's up to the owners to make proper arrangements for them and to family members and friends to follow through. Also beware of some local rehoming programs. They rely on you to invite strangers into your home. Strangers with no background checks, no guarantee that the home they are going to is safe and stable. Dog fighters send in families to get victim cats and dogs. Normal looking people. And there is no such thing as a free cat or kitten. They need regular vet care. We wish we could do more, but we all are stretched to our limits. It's time for you to take care of your own.

Lumber has been diagnosed with FIP. He's one of our "Lowe's Garden Center kittens". Without this medication he will die. He has responded very well to this treatment. We have treated and others we know have. All survived FIP with this treatment with no side effects. He requires a shot of 1 cc a day at his weight for 84 days. That dose goes up as he gains weight and he needs months bloodwork (@$300). He's gained 4 oz this week! Please consider helping us help him. All donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE! When his treatment is finished he will be available for adoption for $100. Sweetest boy ever!

Hey local friends…
This week at Publix our kitten food is buy one get one free. If anyone’s able to make a donation, this is a tremendous help to us. These small bags are perfect for us to send out with Foster’s to make part of our adoption kits that we sent home with everybody and to keep in some individual rooms in the rescue where we have just a single litter of kittens. Thank you so much.

Lumber, a tiny but fierce kitten from the Lowe's Garden Center, needs your help to overcome FIP. Despite early detection and treatment, Lumber's condition has been touch-and-go, and he requires ongoing care to beat this illness. We've consulted with FIP Warriors and are dedicated to giving Lumber every opportunity to thrive. However, the cost of treatment is a challenge, and we need your support to cover the medical expenses. Please join us in this fight and share Lumber's story with your network. Together, we can give Lumber the bright future he deserves!

This is Lumber. He's one of 6 kittens found in the garden department of Lowe's in Port Orange. He's very sick and our vets have not been able to figure out what is wrong. We have run out of funds and are in desperate need of donations for further testing and treatment. There are many ways to donate. ZELLE and VENMO are preferred. He's a sweet boy who is in pain and not well. Thank you!

In Loving Memory Of Ross

On July 21st, 2015 we got a call about a very sick kitten. She was found outside in a feral colony. When I first saw her, she was tiny, cold, pale, lifeless. I drove straight to the vets office with the heat on. Dr. Freiberg saw her right away. She had a bad upper respiratory infection. Her eyes were glued shut. She was wheezing. She had a heart murmur. He said “Take her home, love her. I don’t know if she’s going to make it 24 hours. Prepare yourself. She needs a miracle. Work a miracle Shira.”

I never had a doubt in my heart the she wouldn’t make it. Sissy didn’t think she’d be alive the next morning. I brought her home. I prepared a bottle, made rice socks and cozied up a carrier. I gave her a warm bath with Dawn Dish soap, carefully putting a ring of it around her neck so the fleas could not race to her head. We put towels in the dryer to warm them up. She refused the bottle, but did gulp down some warmed up canned food. I held her throughout the night, listening to her faint cries.

I don’t know why, we just assumed she was a boy. She was a dilute orange tabby. 80% of tabbies are males. I named her Ross. That same day, a musician that I know, his father passed away. His name was Ross. Joey Ramone’s middle name was Ross. And this little one would need some divine intervention to help her along. Many moments I just thought, breathe little one. Just keep breathing. She did not stand. She could not lift her head. She was beyond weak. I was attempting to feed her every 2 hours. She got so weak she could not eat, so we’d syringe feed her a little at a time.
