Meet Gloria. She is 4-year-old, gray and white American Pit Bull Terrier/Mix (70 lbs.). She came into the shelter as a stray. Notes indicated during intake she was wiggly, tolerant of her vaccinations and walked to her kennel without issue. She has been described as a “sweet, nice girl” that is affiliative, and likes getting petted all over. She has been easy to handle and take for walks since her arrival less than 30 days ago. Poor Gloria is having a hard time living in a small kennel in this high stress environment… her anxiety is now manifesting in behaviors of licking the floors, kennel walls and drooling excessively 😢 Thankfully enrichment could offer her a short reprieve and we hope moving her to a quieter kennel will help her rest easier(*UPDATE: she was not moved to a quiet kennel because the shelter manager refused to move her since she was already provided a deadline*), but she does require an outlet by close of business tomorrow (8/11).
Gloria has not been assessed with other dogs, so if there are pets in your home, she would need to be separated initially, with SLOW, controled introductions after she has had a adequate decompression time (this means weeks, not hours or days). Gloria is currently being treated for a “doggie cold” but she is on the mend and has already been on antibiotics for almost a week.❤️🩹
