Club History
The Rodeo City Riders Saddle Club, Inc. was founded in 1964 by a group of friends who lived in the Manawa area. Among their goals and vision for their club: hold fun shows; have public and club trail rides, ride in parades, start an equestrian drill team, have club potlucks, and help other horse owners learn and do more with their horses. Since the club would be based out of Manawa, a
nd since Manawa was known as ‘Rodeo City’ because of the Mid-Western Rodeo, it seemed only fitting that the club should be named ‘Rodeo City Riders’ and so the Rodeo City Riders Saddle Club, Inc. Current Club Activities
All of the goals that were hoped for so long ago when the club was founded have come to pass, and much more. The Rodeo City Riders have held an annual Fall Trail Ride for the past many, many years near the old Mary Simon’s farmstead and while it has become a ‘no frills’ ride, it is still one of the most beautiful rides you’ll find in the area and many people attend each year rain, shine or snow! There is an active parade group and the drill team performs for at least three rodeos each summer. Hard-working club members obtained permission and created horse trails at Hartman's Creek State Park, complete with an easy-in/ easy-out parking area and handicap mounting ramps. Fun shows have been held for the past two years and interest and attendance is very strong. Rodeo City Riders members are responsible for security at the Mid-Western Rodeo each year and there is always a club potluck or two each season. Club members have a White Elephant gift exchange at the club Christmas party, and each March the club holds a ‘Landowner Appreciation’ dinner to thank the people who allow the fall trail ride on their property.
