There is something in the air today,
The 50+ temperature,
The sun, the birds.
I’ve just had a sense that today was going to be a good day.

I went up to my office a bit ago
I found this yellow jacket queen on the floor.
A smile instantly crossed my face,
This lady is responsible for bringing an entire colony of Yellow jackets back to life in the spring.

Before she lays her first eggs,
Before those eggs become workers,
She must forage for herself.
I imagine she was hungry when she woke up today.

Thank you dear queen for warming up today,
Wandering into my office
(I guess it was a good thing I never took the window A/C out)
And allowing me to send you to the next adventure
In a jar of soapy water.

We will have one less yellow jacket colony to fight
In the fall.

Goodness, 15 year old me would have never believed
That 38 year old me would be thrilled to find
A yellow jacket queen in her office.

Life is wild.
