D. O. A.
Found a young inspired possum by one of the cat food areas.
This scares me because he was kind of twisted.

Previously accustomed to 1 litterbox, located in easily accessible location in hallway/tucked away. Has not been seen by a vet. Soiled areas were blocked to prevent further accidents.
Energy level/descriptors: medium energy, friendly, quiet, lazy/couch potato, lap cat, independent and a cat who prefers contact on his own terms
Other notes: Spends most of his time where people are, bedroom and living room. Likes to chase/pounce on toys and likes things that crinkle. Rarely had interactive playtime at previous home. Likes to scratch on carpet/fabric and prefers to scratch on vertical surfaces. He likes to sleep with someone at night, likes to look out the window and watch birds from the terrace. He will hide in fear, has litter box accidents and dislikes dogs.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
11/13/23
Bash was sitting in the middle of his cat condo. He appeared relaxed but alert. I placed treats in his kennel which he sniffed then ate. After few treats, I coxed him closer to the front for some pets on the head while he finished his treats. After a few minutes of petting, he walked back to the middle of his kennel and sat there, watching.

Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:

Overstimulation

Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Bash is social and affectionate but appears to potentially get overstimulated. As a result of the observed body language that can lead to an escalation in overstimulation we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Bash becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:
No dogs
Recommendations comments:
It is reported by the previous owner that Bash doesn't like dogs and will swat at when space is invaded.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Upon approach Bash curiously sniffed the treats the assessor provided. The assessor presented the scratch tool, Bash hissed then ran on top of his den. The assessor was able to pet him on the cheeks & head with their hand, but he cringed away, hissed, lifted his paw, ran down to the main area of his kennel and began to flick his tail. Pick up was not attempted due to high FAS.

Bash tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
