Voices from behind the Cages Want this to be a voice out for shelter dogs

Wendy Maurer why has no one told us we aren't supposed to still be doing this?!?! Have we been misinformed? Are we to eat it civilly as adults? Is this no longer acceptable at our age? I'm so confused

Let’s talk about socialization of your pets and why it is sooooooo important. Your yard and house is a small world for a dog. Dogs need to start meeting other dogs(in a controlled environment with other safe dogs) as soon as they have had vaccinations that keep them safe from illness. A dog isolated doesn’t know how to interact with other dogs and this often comes out in forms of aggression. Dogs need to meet people ….they need to meet dogs….they need to meet cats and whatever else you can expose them to. Making your dog well rounded and otherwise bombproof. If something happens and god forbid your dog ends up in a shelter know that dog severe dog aggression is almost always a death sentence and finding a rescue to take them is highly unlikely as most rescues are foster based and a foster with no other animals is like one in a million. A dog who is human aggressive 100% is going to be euthanized. The reason we are talking about this is because those of us in rescue or animal control have enough on our plates with the way the rescue world is currently. Behavioral euthanasia by far hits the hardest because we see a perfectly healthy dog in front of us that we can’t save and you can bet we have fallen in love with them. Then we have to explain to them and apologize for what you did to them as we comfort them and tell them what a good dog they are as we watch the vet solemnly kill a healthy dog. Ever wonder why vet and animal rescuers have such a high su***de rate? Because we can’t do this day after day and be okay. If you need help with proper socialization or training I know a wonderful trainer. Travis Williams is worth it I promise.

Rescue only! Needing a rescue to help a fearful dog. Needs to be an only dog & no children. She is terrified in the pound. :(

Here is what we know about this dog... she has shown some aggressive tendencies at the pound. Barking, growling, snapping... BUT the officer DOES NOT want to put her down. We discussed a humane euthanasia but he would like to find a rescue that can help her. He doesn't think she should be euthanized. When he told us that, we knew we had try and help her as best we can.

When our volunteer visited the pound, she noted that this dog is FULL, FULL of pent up energy. Enough energy to climb the kennel wall. So we are thinking that this dog needs a foster home that will allow her to decompress, acclimate and get some exercise before any decisions are made.
