Found Hearts - Pets for Adoption / Foster and Helping Rescue Groups in NZ This page has been created for the sharing pets looking for new forever homes in NZ. Must be desexed
(4)

This page has been created to help the pets of NZ and we would prefer that only pets that have been desexed are posted on here as we do not want to be adding to the over population of pets in New Zealand. We do how ever understand in rare cases it is not possible to desex all pets for medical reasons so admin will consider those cases on a case by case bases. We also will be sharing posts from Res

cues and SPCA's that are advertising for foster homes along with posts from Rescues, SPCA's, Pounds and Vets asking for anything needed to help the pets of New Zealand. It might be something as basic as newspaper, blankets or food or something like fundraising or donations needed for welfare cases. Basically we want to be able to help the many organizations that are doing amazing work helping the pets of NZ. For people wanting to adopt please know that the pets welfare will always be put first and will only go to homes after the potential new owner and their property is suitable. If you are in a renting situation please make sure you have permission from your landlord first. We do not want to see the pets go to homes that are not suitable ever.

There is currently active cases of Parvovirus in Christchurch! 🚨

Canine parvovirus is a severe viral infection which causes depression and a sudden onset of smelly bloody & diarrhoea, vomiting and high fever. This can lead to severe dehydration and death. There is a high mortality rate associated with Parvo! 😢

Infected dogs can excrete infectious virus in their faeces for 10 to 21 days, after the onset of the disease 💩 . It can be spread from one dog to the other just through water, food, and contaminated faeces.

It's very difficult to get out of a property!

Parvovirus can survive freezing ⛄️ temperatures and most household disinfectants will not kill it - it can survive in an environment for up to 7 YEARS!

This virus can also be spread from your shoes and clothing. Unfortunately, dog kennels, parks, river banks and show grounds are prefect opportunities for major sources of infection.

Sadly, most cases which are left untreated, the dogs usually will die. Treatment relies on replacing lost body fluids and correcting disturbed electrolyte balance, with fluid therapy. Both the severity of the challenge and the timing of when treatment is started, will affect the outcome. Treatment usually involves very intensive ❤️‍🩹 care for multiple days, in isolation ward within the veterinary hospital.

Sadly, this treatment can be very expensive!

So the important question, is how to be prevent a horrible disease?

Vaccinating your dog is the best way to prevent canine parvovirus infection, with VanGuard or DHP vaccine - we use the DHP vaccine. The vaccine stimulates the dog's immune system, to produce antibodies against parvovirus ♥️

Meet Mervin! He is a fun, loving, caring and active boy who is ready to find his forever home! Mervin is an eleven month old Poodle who is located in Auckland.

Mervin is just a young pup so has lots of playful, silly energy. He is looking for a home where he can continue to learn new things and have boundaries and structure so he can continue to be the bestest boy.

Mervin is looking for a family that will let him take things at his own pace while encouraging and challenging him to learn new things. He is young and smart so needs consistency and guidance.

He is great with other dogs and could do well with another balanced dog to show him the ropes. He would also be fine as an only dog. He is not suited to a home with cats.

Mervin is a great wee guy and will make someone very happy! Apply to adopt him now at www.chaineddog.org.nz/mervin

We need your help to get more dogs like this into a home where they can be loved and cared for. Donate today and help us give our dogs a second chance at life. Donate online at www.chaineddog.org.nz

Help -Christchurch Foster homes needed urgently!

We are desperately needing some committed, reliable foster parents to enable us to continue as a rescue.

Many of our previous foster parents are either travelling or on hiatus, so if you’ve ever considered fostering, now would be a great time to reach out to us!

What do you need to have to foster?

* Safe, escape proof home, local to our rescue team, vets and other professionals here in Christchurch.

* Someone who is compassionate, loves helping animals, is caring, and reliable and committed to helping a foster dog needing a bit of love and support.

*Free time during the day to supervise and/or train your foster dog! (Sorry full time workers!)

How do I apply?

If you live in Christchurch and could commit to becoming a foster mum or dad, then we would love to hear from you!

Please submit the application so we can understand your circumstances and what kind of foster dog would suit best then we’ll be in touch.

Apply here: https://nzchihuahuarescue.co.nz/foster

Please also tag or send the link to anyone you feel would also fit the above!

Lower Hutt cat owners

Lower Hutt cat owners

Thanks to some funding from the Companion Animals New Zealand Trust we are able to launch a campaign to desex 100 cats in the community at a reduced rate. We wouldn't be able to do this without their generosity or the support of Central Hutt Vet Clinic.

For just $30 we are able to offer desexing and microchipping of owned cats in the Hutt Valley and Wainui. This is open to both male and female cats. To apply please fill in the form here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeR6cEP7WAsjTN4VHC92oRt6KLmvBotboAhh7I651U2eWwBZw/viewform?usp=sf_link
Please note this offer is limited to 2 cats per household and due to capacity constraints there may be a significant wait time before the surgery date.
With increased numbers of pregnant cats attending through this desexing program. Please be aware that the procedure will go ahead under the decision of the Vet should your cat arrive in a pregnant state.

If you'd like to support us with the program and the costs associated you can donate here https://givealittle.co.nz/org/for-the-love-of-cats-rescue
Every little bit counts and may enable us to extend the campaign beyond the initial 100 cats that we have planned.

Lets get ahead of the problem and desex these cats before we end up with more unexpected/unwanted cats in our area

* Update - on hold for a new home!

Rocky is a gorgeous, affectionate 20 month old Huntaway x Collie looking for his second chance at a happy-ever-after! Fostered at Little River.

Rocky originally came into our care as a 3-month-old pup who was surrendered off a farm with his 9 siblings. Right from the get-go Rocky was friendly, cheeky, playful pup who flourished in foster care.

He found the perfect home on a farm as a pet, where he was going to learn to do a bit of sheep work. Tragically Rocky's wonderful owner suffered a serious health diagnosis and had to surrender him back to us a year later, knowing he could no longer offer Rocky the life he deserved.

Rocky is currently fostered on a lifestyle block where he has lots of room to run. He is well socialised with other dogs and great with cats, chickens, pigs and people!

He is perfectly crate trained and sleeps inside, has beautiful leash walking manners, good basic commands, and loves to ride in the truck!

All Rocky wants is an owner to adore and go on adventures with! He would make a dream addition to an active owner/couple or family with older children. Rocky needs lots of exercise, but is otherwise happy to snooze on the couch or nap at your feet between runs. He could be happy as an only dog provided he had opportunities to socialise with other playful dogs or attend day care regularly. Must be rural as Rocky has a big guard bark and can bark out of excitement (he is a Huntaway after all!)

Rocky comes with lifetime access to Little River Dog stay for day care and overnight boarding.

Adoption: $200, neutered, fully vaccinated, chipped, registered, flea/worm to date.

Our application process includes an application form, property visit, vet history check of your previous pet care. We do meetings once the adoption process is successfully completed.

South Island adoptions only.
Owner occupied home.
We do home out of the district and can arrange property visits. We do not send the dogs away on transporters.
Stock fenced properties require a fully secure/safe containment area for no one is at home.
If interested please email / message us all about your home and why you think that Rocky would thrive in your care.
