A few ideas to get your dog ready for the 4th of July chaos 🎇⬇️
✅Where is your dog’s Safe Space? On the couch with you? Do they love their crate? Maybe they’ve chosen a quiet closet. Be sure to provide comfort items such as blankets, favorite toy, soft music.
✅What will you prepare to keep them busy and help them relax? I fill toppls, kongs, and lickimats with peanut butter (no xylitol), plain greek yogurt, and pureed pumpkin (100% pumpkin, not pie filling) and freeze.
✅3 of my dogs also love beef or bison cheek rolls, these keep them busy chewing for an hour or more.
🌅I take my dogs out for their last potty break well before dark, then hunker down with blinds and curtains closed and the TV and fans on to help drown out some of the noise.
💙Let your dog tell you what they need, and don’t hesitate to comfort your dog, you will not “create a bad habit” by snuggling with, comforting, or soothing your dog! ❤️❤️❤️ 2 of my dogs want to be right next to me, the other 2 would rather chew and chill.

It’s fireworks season check ID tags and microchips ⬇️
😞I’m sure you’ve already seen the lost dog posts due to fireworks causing dogs to escape and become lost.
🐶When I find a lost dog I can almost immediately reunite them with their family when they have an ID tag with current contact info!
🚙If a dog does not have a tag then it’s off to a vet’s office or the rescue to scan for a microchip, current info means I can reunite them quickly!
⁉️Whaaaat? Your dog’s ID tag or contact info isn’t current? please go get an ID tag today!
💙If you don’t know your dog’s microchip number call your vet to get the number, then enter the number at this site https://www.aaha.org/for-veterinary-professionals/microchip-search/ this will give you a link to the company the chip is registered with. Go to that site and check/update your contact info!

The end of the school year is a busy time for teachers and parents, too!! When my schedule is slammed I’ll feed my dogs their dinner in a snuffle box 2 or 3 times a week. It slows them down, and is mentally enriching too, because they get to do natural dog things like foraging and shredding!
