When a band of 15 horses meets a pack of 8 dogs 🐴🐾I’m so impressed how all the dogs minded their business and let the horses go on by! Thanks for joining the pack hike, everyone! And huge thanks to @scrufflifephotography for capturing it 📸Trail tip: make sure your presence to know to horses and riders, I like to wave or say “trail!” horses have the right of way on trails, so make sure to get out of the way to let them pass. #packwalk #packhike #adventure #dogsofinstagram #dogsofminnesota #hikingdog #dogtraining #dogtrainer #husky #weinerdog #pitbull #lab #irishwolfhound #fieldspaniel #bordercollie #minnesota #exploremn #woods #wilderness #friluftsliv

It’s Monday, let’s learn something new.
Dogs are opportunistic predators who follow the path of least resistance. Where in this video do you see that happen?
I’d say excuse my cursing when I got my hand bit but we all know I swear a lot 🤷🏻♀️

Echo is learning scent work for foraging for morel mushrooms! Part of what we’re working on is marking when she sniffs the morel mushroom in the mason jar. Since this is so new I’m marking any little sniff she gives. Im sharing this process as a reminder that training your dog is a process. Stay tuned for more!#morel #morels #morelseason #mushroom #forage #morelmushroom #optoutside #exploremn #dogtraining #dogtrainer #dogsofinstagram #malamute #alaskanmalamute #scentwork #workingdog
We had a bau-wow good time tonight watching @unclemuskrat at @bauhausbrewlabs 🐾🎻🎶 if you don’t already listen to Uncle Muskrat I recommend a listen! Brewery manners came in clutch 🤌🏻 until Apache was begging for a man’s @animalesbarbequeco and Panda jumped on a guy. We’re not perfect 😂 All pets and compliments were warmly accepted 🥰 #dogtraining #dogtrainer #brewerydog #brewerymanners #impulsecontrol #minnesota #minneapolis #exploremn #husky #malamute #dogsofinstagram
April is National Canine Fitness Month 🐾
@mursaydeees and Opal are working on core conditioning with a @fitpaws FitBone. This was new to Opal and she was a little skeptical of stepping on the bone, the bone is a little squishy and wobbly. But with positive encouragement and good handling from her mom she was able to learn how to get a core workout!
Yay, Opal!

April is National Canine Fitness Month! Who knew 😂
Last Saturday in the Sampler Class at @bauhausbrewlabs we worked on some basic canine fitness exercises.
Here you can see Ruby is confident standing her front paws on a bench. This helps her core muscles to engage and it gives her a nice spinal and abdominal stretch. The bench was a little wobbly so that definitely turned on the little stabilizer muscles in her legs and paws.
Simple fitness exercises are a perfect to practice right now so when the snow is melted and we’re ready to hit the hiking trails there will be a lesser likelihood of canine injuries like a pulled muscle.
More canine fitness content to come this month!
Where are you hoping to go hiking first this spring?

Panda and I got to do one last skijor of the season with our friend @lahti_daa 🐾 it was a blast and they ran together like PB&J!
As the skijor season comes to an end and your interested in learning to skijor, I highly encourage doing command training until next winter. That way you and your dog will be confident and your bond will be stronger.
Need help with training skijor commands? Let’s work together!
Also… I’ve met some of the most amazingly great people through dogs who’ve turned into the best of friends. I am beyond thankful for dogs and their amazing people 🥰

“Hurry up, peasant!”
Me getting Panda a little jacked up before canicross.
Canicross and walks are a great segue into skijoring or bikejoring because you’re able to practice commands with more control, I refer to this as “ground work.” Often times I find that people just hook up and go without training commands first. While that’s not the safest idea for you or your dog, it also doesn’t build leadership in you, trust in the relationship with your dog, or confidence in your dog.
So grab your leash or bungee and go for a walk or a jog and practice your ”ground work” commands so when you’re ready for skijoring or bikejoring it’ll be a smooth and safe transition!
If you’re visual like me, here’s an example of how marker work can be very useful. Echo has a lot of confidence due to marker but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still get afraid of things sometimes.
I have my fat bike inside to change out my tires. I spun the pack wheel and you can hear the gears. Echo wasn’t necessarily afraid but skeptical and maybe a little curious.
I saw this as a learning and confidence growing opportunity. So I stopped working on my bike, stopped the wheel from continuing to spin, and I grabbed some treats.
From there is spun the wheel very slowly, marked her calm behavior, fed. Repeat. Once this looked good I spun the wheel a little faster because it then gets louder. When I see calm behavior I mark and feed again.
Now we don’t care about the tire 🐾

TICK, TICK, BOOM 💥
Real talk for a sec. A lot of times on social media we see the good in dog training, but we don’t always see the bad and the ugly. I believe it takes humility and courage to share the bad and the ugly because there’s a lot of keyboard warriors out there that’ll roast you about anything.
This video looks good right? Dogs were simply working on “sit on the dog.” We do this every week in my Impulse Control/Brewery Manners class. Each week we add another layer of distraction, we start small and add more difficult layers each week as the class progresses.
By week 3 dogs were looking A LOT better than week 1 and even week 2. Believe me when I say A LOT better. There’s 8 dogs in this class, majority of which are truly reactive.
Last weekend a “boom” so to speak, definitely went off during class. I’ve never had this happen before in class.
Typically being this far into class the dogs are more familiarized with the other dogs, people, and space. These dogs are reactive in so many different ways; dogs, people, environment, or a combo of more than one.
Moments after taking this video, I decided to add another layer of distraction, as I try to make class as real life as possible in the last 2 weeks. I started to lightly stomp my feet. Why? Some people walk heavier and louder than others, these heavier and louder steps also cause more vibrations. Some dogs are sensitive to the sound, some the vibration, some both. Let me tell you one dog did not appreciate the stomping at all. The dog reacted by getting to their feet, pulling, and barking. Wanna guess what happened next? Nearly the entire group of dogs packed up and started pulling, lunging and barking too.
Luckily at the beginning of class we talked about rewarding our dogs with space in stressful situations. During this reactive dog chain reaction some owners created space and some were stuck in “freeze.”
Guess what? This is all OK! We all freeze, myself included. I look
I got to hang out with my favorite girlfriend, River, last week. We worked on steps to safely, responsibly, and reliably having her off leash.
River also got to experience my terrible photography skills 🤪
This dog his turned into such a gem 🥺🐾

This is why we train. Training creates good habits. Over time habits become lifestyle.
