We got a call from the vets office today the surgeon looked over his injury and said he doesn't require surgery! With weeks of rest he will make a full recovery.
But as soon as we get the news he begins to colic the stress of the pain medication takes a toll on their stomachs. We have completely weaned him off bute and started aniprin (aspirin)to keep him from getting stomach ulcers. We got him cooled off and comfortable this is just the next hurdle we have to get through.
Here is a clip of him being able to use the leg finally. He is still on pasture rest as a stall would be too dangerous if he gets caught against a wall.
If you have goats this is a must! There are other ways to do it like feed it hidden in snacks but my goats know what it is and spit it out so if you have that problem this is what you need to do to get those copper bolus's down.
Why do goats need it?
It helps with barber pole worms, bone growth, central nervous system, and skin and coat, it is a very important mineral all goats need.
What are the symptoms of goats needing copper?
Fish tails, dull or not shiny coat, anemia, heavy worm loads, issues with birthing, poor milk production
Shedding season has begun and these dirty boys are losing so much hair but watching all of it come off is super satisfying.
Copper is not excited about sharing his space, Theo thinks theres plenty of space for him. 😂
Ace needs someone to walk slow with him, he's an old man now, it doesn't make him less deserving of love he has given so much to people in his life. We can go at his pace now.
We are there for the older ones, the scared ones, and the ones that are no longer wanted. They can rest here, be loved here, and make friends.
I've been very sick the past few days and only been out to feed the animals. Today I felt well enough to go outside and spend time with them. I know we say that we rescue them but truly they rescue us.
As soon as I walked out there everyone came running and stood next to me. They missed me they were worried about me. They could feel how much I miss them too.
They are my family my friends, my herd, and my whole heart. I kept telling them over and over again how I love them and that I'm ok, I'm right here.
Casey getting a dental to remove sharp points on her teeth to make eating a lot easier and less painful. Older horses teeth stop growing and wear down a lot which makes it hard for them to eat enough grass and loose feed to gain good weight. Dentals make eating more comfortable and soaking senior feed will help keep weight on an older horse that struggles to eat the amount needed to maintain good weight.
Today was vet day for the older horses. Ace Gets knee injections for his arthritis to make it a lot easier for him to get around.
Today Ori received his first pretend trim to get him ready for having his feet maintained every 6 weeks. Hooves are the most important part of an equine. Regular hoof care is necessary and starting them young with lots of hands on practice is respectful for your farrier and his back.
Trims cost $40 every six weeks

Don't let her age fool you Casey did great for her riding assessment!
Imprinting is my favorite time! Spending time with babies helps them bond and trust humans but also learn some manners that will make it easier to handle them when they are older and more mischievous.
Update on Jack unfortunately it’s not the news we wanted, I’m sorry we haven’t posted more updates on our page lately but I needed some time process.
Mr.Pickles knows the best way to cool off on a hot summer day.
It’s not about what you ask of them it’s what they give to you freely.
We help all horses even if their not our own, the goal is to help them feel safe and loved. Patience and kindness. It takes one act in just a second of time to break a horses trust and so much time to heal it. Remember to be patient and kind, horses a herbivores prey animals, they need to be able to trust you and build a strong relationship with you. Meet Goose he’s a sweetheart and has a great new home and someone willing to give him the time and love he deserves.
