How long does the hair need to be?
Ideally, the full tail allows me to create the best product. However, I understand that isn't always possible. Here are the minimum lengths I need for the listed keepsake. Ideally, the hair you provide should be all the same length.

Bracelet: 10 inches in length
Necklace: 4 inches longer than your desired finished length
Key Chain and Tassels: 5-7 inches in length
Earrings: 10 inches in length.

What if you only have mane hair?
Tail hair is ideal as it is more durable, but I also make keepsakes out of mane hair. There are a couple of options for the mane hair! An EJD original tassel or key chain is a great option.

Can't believe I still had this headstall to be able to donate it. Some things are just meant to be!

This was a strong reminder why I love taking modeling photos of my headstall work, and really should try to do it more often. These headstalls just hit different when they are being worn!

We have been busy with summer vacation, and of course, rebuilding sidesaddles. I hope to get in the loft coming up and release all the creative ideas for headstalls that have been building in my mind!

When Hunter (Montana Tines Mohair, LLC) sent me this cactus breastcollar to match, I fell in love with it (like I do with all of her work!)... but I knew I would have to be especially careful about not keeping this one.

The best way - I thought - to do this - would be to use some of my least favorite gemstones, and stones that have been too big to use on most items, and have been in my collection for years. I knew the stones matched perfectly, but they just weren't what I knew as "my favorites".

Suffice to say, my plan backfired. I fell in love with this headstall despite all efforts to part with it.

Individually, I still can't say they are my favorite gemstones, but they are such a unique combination bringing together texture and a variety of shapes.

From orange coral to green aventurine, pink Rhodochrosite and Turquoise slabs... there is a little bit of everything, matching the breastcollar colors perfectly.

We had a beautiful ride yesterday and had the opportunity to dress up!

Omg 🤯 it’s really getting somewhere! I have several sewing projects I can’t wait to do soon and there’s actually space!

Not gonna lie, all the bits and pieces have gotten thrown in a big tote…. Anyone else ever feel like it’s just easier to sort out of a box and clear off your surface??? I make myself pick up each piece and make an executive decision on its home.

The kids are definitely reaping the benefits today! 🙃

Some incredible slabs of Jasper and agate for Colten, a dichroic glass pendant Savannah has been eyeing, a (probably considered vintage now) solid 3D whale tail keychain embossed “Shamu” from when I was a kid and went to SeaWorld, and an agate bracelet. And for Hendrix, three beautiful obsidian arrowheads.
