How do you even cope as a dog owner with all the conflicting information you’re given??

I feel we, as dog professionals need to be helping you out more…I mean take the last few days of people spewing out the “don’t walk your dog” bo****ks how does that make you feel? Dogs don’t need exercise they just need a licky mat and some time to watch the sunset and reflect on their day!! 😜 When I’m here daily saying that avoidance and not walking your dog is damaging…it must be so confusing for you!!

I mean it’s funny for us! Well, funny, peculiar rather than funny haha… but we have our little group chats about the extreme advice given out and we cringe and whinge about it behind closed doors!

But actually how are you meant to know what to follow?
The crew who tell you that they’re “science based” like to have the upper hand with fancy letters after their names and the fact that science is on their team - but the science is massively flawed!!
If the science is telling us dogs aren’t a pack, don’t need to walk, can’t cope with any stress, need to sit home and sunbathe, avoid all slightly inconvenient situations and can’t ever be told “No” cos it upsets their feelings then that science is not real life!!!

So I have developed a new title and I now identify as a Reality Based Trainer!
The reality is - dogs are an Apex predator, a social animal, a strong willed survival expert, a scavenger, an opportunist and an adaptable companion! Let’s stop treating them like they’re a nervous wreck!!
Science based trainers are dealing out anti-psychotic drugs and avoidance methods for 6 month old puppies - reality based trainers are rehabilitating those dogs and their owners and putting them back together again!!

Create a human/dog bond which allows for maximum level of learning with whatever training method works best for you and your dog. Keeping your dog healthy and strong.

Training, titling and competing in multiple venues and sports; (AKC, UKC, Schutzhund) obedience, tracking, conformation, agility & nosework. Working with dogs since the 80's in both conformation and obedience. Training in multiple venues, building passion to train and compete to the present. Focusing on schutzhund since 2015 and concentrating on the dogs structure and health due to the strenuous work in the sport. An unexplained injury to a young dog with no clear answers from veterinary practices prompted holistic practitioners. Seeing dramatic results with massage therapy carved the path to become a practitioner. Completing training and certification in 2020 for canine myo-manipulative functional therapy, along with a B.A. in liberal arts started this new venture as a canine massage therapist.
