The Magrr Foundation: Bridging Hope for Animal Rescues

Memphis, Tenn. (February 7, 2024) — It is with great excitement and heartfelt commitment that Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue, a renowned Golden Retriever rescue for 22 years, announces its transformation into the Magrr Foundation. This strategic evolution marks a significant milestone in the organization’s journey, as it seeks to expand its mission and impact.

Founded in 2001, Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue dedicated more than two decades to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of Golden Retrievers in need. The rescue’s unwavering commitment saved countless lives, provided loving homes to more than 2,500 furry companions, and created a legacy of compassion.

The newly established Magrr Foundation will build upon this legacy, transitioning its focus from direct rescue efforts to a broader mission of supporting and uplifting animal rescue organizations. The Foundation’s primary goal is to endow grants to these organizations, ensuring they have the necessary resources to continue their vital work. Information for grant seekers will be forthcoming.

The Board of the Magrr Foundation stated, “We believe that by empowering other animal rescue organizations throughout our region and beyond, we can multiply the positive impact we’ve had on the lives of animals and the communities we serve. Our mission is to be a beacon of hope and support for those on the frontlines of animal rescue.”

The Magrr Foundation invites the community, philanthropists, and animal lovers alike to join hands in this noble endeavor. Donations and partnerships will be critical to the success of the Magrr Foundation as it works toward making a lasting difference in the lives of animals and those who care for them.

🖤Meet Max 🖤

Max is the rare, handsome, black gold! He was recently adopted to a great family, but due to their surroundings of loud noises and over stimulation, Max struggles with anxiety and needs to be in a calmer environment to thrive. He did great in his foster home before (which was a little bit quieter). He currently lives with a female golden that he gets along with and lived with other dogs while in foster. Max is a very smart boy who loves to show off his skills to people, which he also does great with.

🎀Paisley🎀

This girl is gorgeous! It’s amazing she is so calm to be so young. She’s currently undergoing heartworm treatment but is handling it well. Paisley will do best with a family that wants a calm, amazing dog that is content lounging around and looking pretty.

⭐️ Alumni Spotlight ⭐️

Mac (MAGRR Van in 2018) is an alumni with quite the story to tell! After adoption, it was quickly recognized that he had a natural ability for Search & Recovery. His owner, Amy, started working with him. Mac can handle tough terrain and easily draws dogs to him. His awesome nose and personality have guided him in over a dozen searches over the past year!

In addition to his work, he’s also a great foster brother at home. His family specializes in dogs with fear and anxiety. Mac can easily be found teaching them how to trust by cuddling up next to them. Let’s give a round of applause to this hardworking boy and his adopters!

Look at this gorgeous girl, Sparkle. She and her sister, Glitter, were found abandoned in a rural area. She is approximately 5 months old and loves to play with dogs and human kids! She’s working on basic commands but is already crate and potty trained. She’s so unique with her blue eye too! 💛💙

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIMBA! 💛

“It’s hard to believe Simba has made it to his 15th Birthday considering he has battled an aggressive cancer the past 6 months and was only projected to survive 2 months. What an incredible boy and incredible journey since adopting him from Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue 9 years ago. He helped mentor 27 foster dogs through these years and has been so willing to share his life with them for however long they needed to stay. He enjoyed his fabulous cakes from 3 Dog Bakery, a wonderful birthday party with all my siblings, their spouses and their dogs and a sunset walk down to the lake. I know his time is limited and I am cherishing every moment possible with him.”

“Lookin’ for my forever home 👀”

Meet Murphy. He came to MAGRR a few years ago and was adopted to a family that had some life changes and sadly could no longer give Murphy the attention he needed. He went into foster with an amazing family until he was adopted a second time. Sadly, this owner incurred a health problem and had to surrender Murphy back. Thankfully his foster family from before welcomed him with open arms, but he’s still waiting for that forever home.

Murphy is an all around good boy. He’s got some age to him, but he’s not your typical old man. He does well with other dogs, cats, and kids. Murphy doesn’t like when strangers come to the door, but neither do we! If we could bark to scare away intruders like Murphy, we’d do the same! Murphy has gone on camping trips with his foster family and always does great.

Sadly he’s just been dealt a bad hand and is a golden/toeller mix with he is consistently overlooked. It makes us SO sad for him.

🖤💛Who doesn’t love black gold 💛🖤

Meet Magic! He was rescued from a local shelter a couple of months ago and we can’t understand why he’s still waiting on his forever home. Do you think he’s waiting for YOU??

Magic is approximately two years old and weighs 55lbs. He loves everyone he meets- including other dogs and kids. We think he would probably do well with feline friends too. He’s still got some puppy in him, but I s doing great on basic commands.

This is Tatum, our newest MAGRR foster. She has a very special heart (literally), and needs an adopter who’ll give her the best rest of her life possible. She was born in January 2020. She loves to go for car rides, playing with her foster brother, and lounging inside. She is peacefully coexisting with all three cats.
