Service dog prospects

Our dogs are bred here at Blackrose Kennels

Our adults are health tested for genetic defects ( and clear) as well as OFA hip and Elbows Good or better.
Our breeding stock is titled in sports.

Our pups are Volhard temperament tested at 49 days.

Our service dog prospects leave our facility with these minimum achievements:
Heel
Sit
Down
Stay
Center
Guard
Circle
DPT
LPT
Tuck
Interruption ( crying)
Fetch ( each to their own intensity)
Off leash recall
Swimming
Crate

Each dog learns at a different pace but these are my minimum standard. They know these commands.
Offering them as a task will depend on the dog, their age and level of maturity.

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations, registered and microchipped.

A ride in the truck, then a quick trip to the chip wagon at the docks for Lake Moira.
We met a few people and another fetching machine ( chocolate lab).

I think she did a really good job for the few times she has seen big water!!

Montana, a fox red ( yellow) lab is a special girl. Loves children and is so gentle. She has a soft touch.
She has some great skills and is looking for her handler.
She will be 2 in August, and is ready to go anytime.

She will assist a young man, as his service dog in training, who is having some issues.
She is going to love her new family and a boy all her own.

Fabulous training day today!!

Paris and I went into Giant Tiger. She volunteered block, center and guard throughout the trip but she did amazing watching my back at the self checkout !!!
At 13 months she is making a smooth transition into tasks while on outings.
Love this Winter/Archer pups. She rocks!
And she is available to the right handler.

Kindle made a quick trip to Deerock Lake today. A few retrieves in water ( she will go to it but not bring it back on land 🤣🤦‍♀️).
Then a quick trip to the local garden center…..
First time on a leash. She did awesome for her first outing.

Kindle is going to make an awesome confident service dog.

Corby (formerly Mel a Ginger/Chester pup) is rocking his service dog training with Erika at Eden Dog Academy in Guelph. The goal is to get him and his handler ready for school in September.

Let’s find Cairo a hunting home! I’m just getting back on my feet from a sprained ankle so he is a little rusty but he is SO willing to please. He loves water too when it wasn’t frozen. First one in and last one out. 10 months, up to date on shots and registered. He is 48 pounds, so he won’t be a large dog. Message me and I’ll pass along his pedigree

Reacher has come back to us with a torn CCL. Poor baby. We do not have the funds to support a 15 minute $6,000 surgery plus follow up charges and rehab. So we opted for a brace for both legs. This recovery will take at least a year. A long slow process of limited activity but still enough to keep the muscle mass up. Over exercise of young dogs in small spaces. Allowing them to do zoomies in small spaces, in home and on slippery floors. Allowing young dogs to jump in and out of vehicles, on and off the furniture can all lead to small tears in the ligaments meant to hold joints stable. I feel so bad about Reacher, but mostly angry that it was allowed to happen. He can have a full recovery but it will take time and patience. 2 to 4 short 10 minute walks a day for the next few weeks then build from there. He is such a sweet loving boy.

Gus is improving with his leash manners!

Basil’s engagement is improving along with his confidence. Crate training is going great, waiting at doors. Keeping his head up while walking on a leash has made a huge difference in his leash manners

Welcome Basil to our training program. A few things we will be working on. Crate training, walking on a leash and hopefully graduate to off leash recall in the time he is here. Already seeing a difference
