and a handful of cat enthusiasts. Their dream of building the most progressive, flexible, and innovative cat registry in the world came true when TICA was formed. TICA is the world's largest genetic registry of pedigreed cats, and the world's largest registry of household pets. We are the first feline registry with a Genetics Committee that must first approve every new breed, color and pattern. We recognize 73 breeds and more new breeds than other cat fancy associations. Did you know that a cat’s tail can speak volumes? Unlike dogs, who wag their tails when they're happy, a cat’s tail tells a different story. Just the other day, my cat, Luna 🐈 , sat by the window with her tail flicking side to side. A visitor reached out to pet her, unaware of the storm brewing. That tail wag was her way of saying, ‘Back off, human!’
And it’s not just the tail—watch those whiskers too! 🐯 When Luna gets scared, her whiskers flatten against her face. But when she spots a bird outside, they shoot forward, ready for the hunt. Cats have their own unique language, and learning it makes living with them all the more interesting. 🐾

Did you know catnip is like a fun little trip for cats? 🌿😸 The special chemical in it, called nepetalactone, makes cats go wild for about 15 minutes. The strength of TICA lies in its members. Breeders, exhibitors, and cat lovers are invited to join TICA and participate in the most progressive registry in the world. Our members are entitled to vote on all issues which shape the Association. Clubs do not vote in TICA. Members are also entitled to belong to breed sections of their choice and may be eligible to be an elected officer. There are currently more than 9,000 TICA members throughout the world.

More than 9,000 cat lovers, and 45,000 plus clients, just like you, in 104 different countries make up TICA cat community. TICA cat fanciers gather at cat shows and other social gatherings to celebrate all that is feline and fabulous with like-minded individuals from around the world.
TICA Breeds Constantly Evolving with Science. TICA® currently recognizes 71 different breeds of cat. The Association is primarily a genetic registry, meaning that cats are registered by what they are genetically in both color and pattern. TICA cats are selectively bred for health, temperament, and beauty. They are inspired by nature integrated with scientific principles. Recognized breeds are constantly evolving with breeders utilizing ongoing scientific research and understanding into each cat and updating Breed Standards as they go. Breeds are recognized by meeting the rigorous scientific, behavioral and exhibition requirements to be a championship breed in TICA.
TICA Is Not Just About Pedigree Cats, We Welcome Every Cat in All Colors and Hair Lengths. TICA members work together to promote the preservation of pedigreed cats and the health and welfare of ALL domestic cats through education, knowledgeable cat ownership, and proper care for owners of millions of cats worldwide.
Referred to as Household pets, non-pedigreed cats and kittens are encouraged to register with TICA and compete for the same titles and top honors as pedigreed cats around the world.
TICA based in science, is more accepting of color variations and hair lengths within breeds and recognizes and helps develop more breeds from registries around the world.

Operated as a membership organization, TICA allows individual members to have a say in all association matters. Every member has a vote in creating the rules of the Association. Whether you are a judge, breeder, official or household pet owner, everyone is counted equally.
