Our dogs are housed in foster homes. Once an applicant is approved for adoption they will meet with the Adoption Coordinator and dog(s) at a designated location. The application process usually takes 24-72 hours, provided references respond. Including an email for references will often speed up the process.

URGENT FOSTER NEEDED!!
Help me so I can keep my babies safe!
Tails and Trails is looking for a foster in Indy area. My babies and I were dumped and are currently living under a shed in Kentucky.
I have to circle it often to keep the coyotes away. After being found the property owners are trying to help and got some dog food donated. But they're older and cannot keep us inside. I have 6 babies who are now about a month old, 5 boys and 1 girl. It only takes a few minutes of meeting me for us to be best friends. I am only 20-25'lbs. JELLY BEAN now has a new family. After being abandoned, in February, at the only home he knew, he really hit pay dirt! The rural mail carrier made sure he received a meal every day on her route. A KY foster kept him safe the week before he was transported to TTR (Indy) where one of our wonderful fosters cared for him until he was was adopted by a family in KY, today. The KY foster & our own volunteer Julie Z took care of the vet bill. There were many good souls looking after JELLY BEAN. Happy Life!

OH MOMMA! SHE'S POPPIN!
Hi, I need your help. I am a stray here in Owsley County Ky. They don't have anywhere for dogs to go (no shelter). I will have babies soon and need a place to keep my them safe. I am an Aussie (one blue eye- Merle colored). Beagle/Daschund Mix. Can't say who the dad is as I was on the streets. They call me Poppin because those babies are poppin to get out. I am 37 lbs. now but most of that is my puppies! The rescue needs a foster to take me! Maybe 2 to 3 years old.

Ella, now Dottie, escaped the back yard, last night, on last potty. Owner searched but could not find her. He left a message with us early this morning. A message from finder also came in to us. Dottie is not only chipped but had our tag with # on her, as well. Some kind folks in Irvington kept her safe & cool until her daddy could pick her up.
All our dogs are chipped.

NEED FOSTER FOR 1 WEEK BEGINNING Friday June 14th.

Jelly Bean is a 7 year old, 70 lb devoted lovable lab that waited 4 months for his owners to return after abandoning him in rural Appalachia . You can not find a better dog!. He survived by the goodness of the local mail carrier who fed him. The picture on the bottom is at the vet's office where he got all his shots and heartworm tested negative. His Ky foster saw that he was groomed at the vet. He is great with kids, cats and other dogs. On antibiotics for ear infection and Lyme.

ONE VERY SPECIAL VOLUNTEER...Larry Hammer.
At 83 yrs old, Larry Hammer loves to walk the dogs. RHEA, 8yrs old, is heading to the vet in the morning to see about the large growth on her left front leg. Larry stopped by the Director's home where she is being fostered. He first took her out for an hour walk, stopping for "snack time" throughout the walk. When they returned, RHEA had her dinner & night meds. Larry sat on the floor with her...while she was on her bed, just petting & talking to her until she fell asleep. After her 30 minute nap, she got up & stretched. Larry took her for a short "potty walk". She is sleeping good tonight. Thanks, Larry.💕

BELLA MARIA GOES HOME!
Yesterday, she came in from a shelter to TTR. She & two other dogs had been removed from their home due to neglect. Today, she goes to her forever home with a built-in Cattle Dog friend! LIfe has only just begun for this 8y old!

RHEA Foster RHEA out on this cool morning (70°) with my Betsy. Rhea will be seeing Brookville Rd Vet on Tuesday for the growth on her left, front leg. What a kind & gentle dog she is! Rhea is 8 yrs old. She's housebroken; loves cats, dogs & people. She will be available for adoption once we figure out her medical needs.

HAZEL is done with her pups & looking for a forever. She was recently spayed & fully vaccinated. TailsandTrails.org

ADOPTED! CHARLES wants to know where his new family is hiding. He was just neutered & now has all his vaccines. Born in January. He is a sweet, active young man. Mom was an Australian Shepherd, Dad was suppose to be. I think Mom had a wandering eye for the local Border Collie...just guessing. He'll make quite the hiking buddy. Bert is a sweet guy who loves all people! He came to the rescue with his brother, Ernie, when their owners got divorced and didn't want to keep them. They are not bonded and would do better in their own homes. He can tolerate some other dogs but prefers people over other pets. He is good with kids too! Handsome Samson came to us as an adult that lived outdoors on a chain. Then arrived to our boarding facility, and he’s never left. Sure, he’s gone on outings (pictured below), but never had a chance to live in a home for 3 years now! He’s a volunteer favorite. He is hands down the friendliest guy you’ll ever meet. Likes to give hugs and is alllll about affection. We think he would be just fine around older kids too - his hugs are gentle but would knock down small kids. He’s around 65-70 lbs after all! Give him some time to acclimate to your home and guests, and he’ll be your best buddy! He gets along with most dogs (and even has a special skill of being one of the only playmate that can tolerate one of our most reactive dogs). He can be a little bossy and rough which isn’t all dog’s cup of tea. We’d be happy to schedule a meet and greet to see if the dogs are a good fit together! Please consider Samson! This video is a big deal for sweet Cookie (black and white border collie). She came to us from a shelter, adopted out, and then back to us for being too much to handle. Cookie is not great with kids and leery of new people. This doesn’t make her an ideal candidate for most homes so she is consistently looked over. She can also be bossy and selective in her play style requiring slow introductions. For the past few weeks, she’s been playing with King every few days for just 10 minutes at a time. Now, she waits outside for him to come out to play too - disappointed when it isn’t a “King Day.” Cookie would be a great farm dog and addition to a home with border collie experience. She’d do best in a low traffic home and a tolerant dog companion considering her tendency to be bossy and sometimes make her dog friends mad. If you’re looking for a young female border collie and can meet her needs, please apply at www.tailsandtrails.org/adopt. She’s a great girl who deserves a chance in a home! King is also available and looking for a foster or adopter. Great with people (might be too boisterous for young kids) and good with dogs. Needs a cat free home though!

Coconut and his brother join us from KY when his elderly owner passed away. People that knew their elderly owner said he was a great owner and would take them to a local pond several times a week to fish and were well known in their community. He is a 6y male neutered chihuahua looking for his forever home. He is 12 lbs. He is a well mannered guy. He is house trained, knows how use a doggy door, crate trained and getting along well with the foster's other small dogs. He is the more reserved of the two and a snuggly lap dog. He may prefer a home without small kids but that is unknown. We also don't know how he would do with cats but don't have any concerns. If you're interested in him, apply at www.tailsandtrails.org

Including an email for references will often speed up the process. You must be 21 years of age or older to apply.
