I sent out messages to the wait-list earlier today so now it's time to make the news public…
We are heartbroken to announce that breeding is not going ahead this week.
Despite previous full approval being granted, this was withdrawn the week we were scheduled to go to VA to breed.

We've had approval for Callie for a while, our intention was always to breed her & Braveheart Tamaskan was registered as a kennel name with both the TDR & ITR since 2019.
We waited the extra year, per the requirements for this litter. We submitted all required testing. We kept in constant communication.
TDR withdrew approval last year, but wished us well for the future. ITR was happy for us to proceed cautiously & use an outcross to minimize risk of health issues in the prospective litter. We found Mojo! Mojo was approved as a foundation dog for the ITR & the breeding between he & Callie got the go-ahead.
Then last week, Callie's littermate brother, was diagnosed with Addison's Disease… The good news is with proper medication a dog can live a completely happy and normal life. He is doing fine & receiving treatment.
What you should know is that while there is likely a genetic component, researchers believe there are triggers that turn on the genes that then result in Addisons. These things include: toxins, some human medications, trauma to the back, stress, infections, and environmental exposures of other kinds.
This is only the 9th case in the breed of over 2500 dogs. Some researchers even suggest that this may not be genetic at all—that it could be entirely environmental as it is an autoimmune disease.
So despite doing all we could, & pleading our case, we are denied to proceed. Callie is everything I think a Tam should be in terms of structure, aesthetic & temperament. That said, I hold no ill will to the decisions the boards made, even if I disagree with them. Mojo's owner has been so kind & understanding. Hawthorne Tamaskan continues to be my mentor & counted a friend throughout all of this.
I will never get back the hours that I missed out on with my children to focus on Callie's social media, emails, questions, website, wait-list, etc. I was angry initially, now I'm just saddened. Telling the kids was the worst part & they are heartbroken that there'll be no puppies. I still wouldn't trade Callie for anything. I'm hopeful we can continue Braveheart Tamaskan at some point, but for now, we're on pause.

Ohhhhhhhh Yeeeeeaaaaahhhh! 🥳
Pre-approval from ITR has been granted pending final testing for Mojo. These will be first generation Tamaskan puppies, and Mojo will be a new foundation stud for the ITR! 💖
Breeding is planned for October, so all going well puppies would be due late December/early January. 🐺
I (Nic) will be reviewing all applications this weekend & the wait-list will be built by Sunday evening. 👩💻

How we kept this a surprise from the kids for a year is beyond me! I waited 7yrs for a Tamaskan (we had human babies first). Hawthorne Tamaskan was/continues to be a joy to talk to/learn from. We can't imagine not having this cute addition in our home!

Things may have been a little quiet but it's because finding a stud has been much more difficult than anticipated!
If by some miracle we find a stud in the next 6wks, we will proceed with breeding this autumn. If it continues to be as hard as it has been, we would have to postpone til Spring.
