Be kind to yourself. Some days just making it through the day should be the "task" you check off the list. Stop thinking you need to do more... and when you're remembering a beautiful life that was lived, loved and shared, just know wherever you are right now is exactly where you should be. Always though... be kind to yourself.

💜 Treat yourself as your own best friend and love yourself through the process versus
shaming your heart in how it feels.
💜 Honor the life and love you shared with your pet, whether with a ritual or a beautiful memorial piece.
💜 Cry because you miss him/her, and don’t apologize for your emotions. You loved, you lost. It hurts.
💜 Do what you need to do to honor the life and love you had. This was your pet, so don’t let anyone tell YOU what’s right or wrong. You do what you want to do.
💜 Honor milestone dates that happen during the Year of Firsts. The first birthday he’s not with you, still celebrate. The first Christmas she won’t be around…do you still hang her stocking? YES! Still take those walks just for them.
💜 Create a tribute area in your home. You lived there together, so let him live on as a beautiful and lovely reminder it was real.

The holidays are a time of joy, but they can also bring moments of reflection and grief—especially when it comes to the loss of a beloved pet. 💔🐾 Even during this festive season, those emotions are very real, and it’s so important to honor them.

That’s why my good friend Dr. Mary Gardner and I co-authored the Forever Friend activity books. They’re designed to help children navigate the emotions of having a senior pet or saying goodbye. Thoughtfully created and stocking-sized, they’re a heartfelt way to share comfort and understanding this holiday season.

🌟 Share love and support this season. 🐾🎁

Preparing yourself in advance for the death of your pet, while emotionally taxing, is a wise and thoughtful thing to do. Certainly, none of us likes to think of that day, the day our heart will be broken into a million pieces. Thinking about this ahead of time will give you and your family the opportunity to discuss how you would like to memorialize your beloved pet and celebrate the life that you all shared together.

I never want to forget. While in the very beginning of the grief journey, the memories are so painful. But, I always do things to remind me it was real. I want to never forget because then and only then do I pay tribute to a beautiful chapter in My Life Story.

I think you can tell so much about a person from the way they treat animals. Helpless, innocent creatures who only want to be loved. To care for something and know their only job here is to love us. That to me is the ultimate in what it means to love. And, to not have compassion for that beautiful gift for our humanly needs is baffling to me. Ya'all feel the same?

Happy Thanksgiving! Hoping your day is full of love, grace, and thankfulness. 🍁
