National German Wirehaired Pointer Rescue Finding homes for GWP's, 1 paw at a time. www.Nationalgwprescue.com (NGWPR) was developed in order to put that belief into action.

The officers and members of the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America (GWPCA) believe that every German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP) deserves an appropriate, supportive and loving home and the National GWP Rescue, Inc. Sponsored and supported by the GWPCA, the American Kennel Club (AKC) parent club of the breed, NGWPR is committed to helping desperate and neglected Wires whenever and where ever po

ssible. National GWP Rescue is a nationwide rescue program whose volunteers work tirelessly to provide funding, foster homes, medical care and training for GWPs found in shelters, animal control facilities and to those GWPs whose current owners are unable to provide a suitable situation. The unstable economy has placed a strain on many families and has contributed to the unusually high number of GWPs currently in rescue. Feeling the impact of the financial downturn, animal shelters and rescue organizations throughout the United States are under—funded and over—burdened by the number of dogs and cats in their care. Oftentimes these facilities contact NGWPR and request assistance. Working hand—in—hand with governmental and local shelters, the Wirehearts Foster Care Network, provides a safe and responsible home for any GWP in need. Placed with an experienced GWPCA member—foster, GWPs that have been neglected, untrained or have medical issues quickly blossom as they are readied for their "forever" homes.

Hello everyone! Happy Holidays! ☃️

My name is Emily, a California-based NGWPR volunteer.

Today, I’m sharing a little VLOG about Choco, a sweet boy I’m currently fostering, right alongside the three other pups in my family!

I’m reaching out to ask for your end-of-year support for NGWPR. Suzanne Oslander the NGWPR leader and dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to keep this organization running on shoestrings. Despite low adoption fees for pedigree pups, NGWPR covers significant costs for vaccinations, medications, spay/neuter surgeries, and more. Suzanne often subsidizes these expenses, and does not break even on cost of vetranarian services especially for older and injured dogs.

Volunteers like me foster dogs in need, providing housing, transportation, and food and most importantly love and compassion to often traumatized dogs. We do this all unremittingly and from the ♥️ heart. Some fosters are short term and easy, sometimes fosters are long term and complex involving the training and rehabilitation of very challenging sweethearts.

We rely on the support of the GWP community to help rescue more GWPs. When considering adopting a GWP, please pause and think about the efforts behind a rescued dog, consider donating more than the adoption fee. Many dogs require additional medical care, such as dental work, orthopedic surgeries, medicine for infections or chronic condition management. It’s truly incredible what this work is about and it can be expensive.

I’ve experienced Suzanne helping long distance dogs being neglected, tortured and abused. I have seen her commitment to people who are in dire need of placing their family beloved pet, I have experienced NGWPR volunteers driving hundreds upon hundreds of of miles to connect dogs with new lives.

When you see a post about a dog needing a foster or adopter, please consider offering to help somehow with transportation, especially if you’re local to the dog in need. Additionally, please donate to support or sponsor the needs of these rescues, sometimes leashes are needed, harnesses, a cozy bed! Suzanne can best tell you what she needs to help the dogs posted! Please communicate via FB Messenger or Text when she posts!

Together, we can make a difference for GWPs in need.

🎄 Happy Holidays and thank you for your support! 🐾

💫 more information forthcoming on Choco a Central Coast/California based beautiful rescue in the days ahead…stay tuned! 🐾 HE IS AMAZING 🤩

Addison: emergency, foster or adopter needed in Caulfield, Missouri
Addison came to us in terrible condition underweight a skin condition ear infection, etc. she has been doing well in foster. However the foster has a young toddler. There was an incident and so we had decided the safest thing is to move Addison to a family that does not have young children . Addison is crate trained and housetrained. She knows basic commands sit, shake, down and walks great on a leash. She has a wonderful off leash recall. addison is in a home where there are chickens and has shown interest. She is four years old up-to-date on her shots. She will be seeing the vet to determine if there is a spay scar. She is good with other dogs and she is also cat safe. If you can offer Addison a home, please call or text Suzanne 860-921-7827 or go to the website nationalgwprescue.com and fill out an application time of the essence as I do not want to put Addison in boarding if we can avoid it.

Cleo located in Montello, Wisconsin Many of you may remember Cleo. came into Rescue at the end of August. She was an owner surrender by a breeder to the shelter. We had already taken one dog and a similar situation with great results. When Jesse went to pick up Cleo she was absolutely terrified. Jesse made multiple posts and he has done everything in his power to get her to trust him, but it is not going to happen. What has happened in the last three months is she has warmed up to his kennel help who is a female. We believe that there is no more that Jesse can do to help Cleo.
We need to get her into a very specific home.
Cleo needs a female only home . This means either a single woman or couple. With women Cleo is very sweet. She’s warmed up. She takes treats. She listens to commands. Whoever adopts her will also need a fenced yard. This is not negotiable. If Cleo were to get loose she is a flight risk. I know this is a tall order and we will wait, and she will stay with Jesse until the right Home comes along. We are hoping to find somebody relatively local so that they can meet heand ppspend time with her so that we are sure that we’re making the right decision. if you are interested in opening up your home to clean out, please call or text me 860-921-7827 or complete an application on our website nationalgwprescue.com

Meet Murphy located in Kennewick Washington. This handsome boy will be one year old on Christmas Day. He is not yet neutered. Murphy is up-to-date on shots so he will need to be neutered and microchipped. Murphy is super sweet great with people good with other dogs knows basic commands, but sometimes forgets in his exuberance. He currently has been sleeping in an outdoor kennel although he is allowed in the house. Murphy is being surrendered due to a divorce. We would like to put Murphy in a foster to adopt situation. That gives us time to get him neutered and microchipped. If you can offer Murphy a new home, please call or text Suzanne 860-921-7827 or fill out an application on our website nationalgwprescue.com.

meet Bella, a three-year-old female located in new Braunfels, Texas. Bella is spayed and up-to-date on shots. She has had some training on birds. She is crate trained, and has an excellent recall. She is good with male dogs, but not female. She would be great with older children and is good with cats unpredictable aggression towards female dogs is the reason she is being rehomed. If you would like to adopt her please call Suzann with any questions 860-921-7827 or simply complete an adoption application on our website nationalgwprescue.com

yesterday was another sad day for Rescue. Honestly, I’m glad the week is over. Many of you will remember the dogs we called the three amigos found in an abandoned outbuilding in Princeton, Minnesota. There were three dogs Ruby, four year-old female bow, a three-year-old male and Roscoe a two-year-old male, the dogs had lived in this filthy environment. There were dead rats in the water and rat tunnels all throughout the floor. There were live wires hanging from the ceiling and it is a miracle that the dog survived Aaron and Joe Yanish stepped up and fostered Ruby went to a wonderful woman in Kentucky, unfortunately a year and a half later she collapsed and passed away in the owners arms of what the vets suspected was a tumor. Roscoe went to a wonderful couple, Wes and Chf with a four-year-old boy. He quickly became potty, trained, and embraced family life. I received the message on Wednesday that Roscoe had been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. his final car ride was Friday and he went for ice cream, which he loved and then onto the vet. He crossed over the rainbow bridge surrounded by loving family. His family is heartbroken. He was only six years old. He was a gentle soul who was good with dogs and cats. He’s surprised everyone. I do believe that the horrific living conditions that these dogs endured has something to do with their early deaths.

Saying goodbye to Roscoe
It has been an incredibly sad week for Rescue. First the loss of pebbles, then Turk and now Roscoe.
many of you will probably remember back in April 2021 I received a call from a man and his daughter who would purchased a piece of property in Princeton Minnesota. When they arrived to look at their new property, they entered an outbuilding and found two kennels containing three GWP’s . The dogs were in deplorable condition. The building was infested with rats. There was a dead one in the filthy water bucket. there were three GWP‘s Ruby four-year-old female bow a three-year-old male and their son Roscoe a two-year-old male their entire lives were spent in that building. Fortunately for Rescue Joe and Erin Yanish stepped up to Foster and got the dogs to safety. Ruby was adopted pretty quickly to an elderly woman in Kentucky she sadly passed a year and a half later. The vet suspected that she had a tumor which had ruptured and killed her almost instantly.
Roscoe was adopted by a wonderful family, Wes and Chelsie Thomas, who also had a four-year-old son. Honestly, I was reluctant to let him go to a family with a young child since Roscoe had no experience with children. I need not have worried because he embraced his new life soon he was joining their son for story time , Roscoe was good with their cats and wonderful with other dogs. I think he was grateful for every day he shared with his family on Wednesday. I received the message saying that Roscoe had an aggressive cancer on Friday after taking him for his favorite ice cream he crossed over the rainbow bridge. He was only six years old.
Please keep this wonderful family in your thoughts and prayers.

we are running out of time the owner of the hunting camp needs to return home. She had no luck catching the other two which means they are going to need to be trapped. Does anybody know the name of someone who can trap these two puppies? They are in rural area. No one will find them, and they will either starve to death or they will be killed by predators. I really need help! if we need to order traps, I can do that but I can’t be there so please call me 860-921-7827

EMERGENCY LOUISIANA

The owner of a hunting camp in Tensas, LA found three German wirehaired pointer Puppies abandoned in the woods. Victoria fed them yesterday and was able to catch the female you see in the first photograph. This female already has a commitment for a new home. She went back with more food today as they are starving and fed the liver female and the black female. The third pup you see in the second photograph is lever with a white beard, white chest, and white socks. this third pop may be L. and is absolutely terrified and will not approach for food. Victoria is going back tomorrow to try again and will let me know. I need one or two foster homes and the name of somebody who could trap the third puppy. if you know anyone in this area, please please reach out to them and also reach out to me. Call Suzann 860-921-7827.

We desperately need a foster to potential adopter… with breed experience.

Suzanne has made contact with the shelter, offered to pay all medical bills etc.. we know he understands basic commands, is very nice towards people. Please help us with this boy!! He is not fixed and did not do well meeting another un-neutered male GWP. He was friendly towards a much smaller dog. He has not been fully temperament tested. We need someone to step up and help us get this dog, we will work on placement immediately!

Please go to our website and fill out a foster to adopt application! http://www.nationalgwprescue.com/Foster-Homes-Needed.html

Now there is is a male GSP in there too. 🤦🏻‍♀️
