National German Wirehaired Pointer Rescue Finding homes for GWP's, 1 paw at a time. www.Nationalgwprescue.com (NGWPR) was developed in order to put that belief into action.

The officers and members of the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America (GWPCA) believe that every German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP) deserves an appropriate, supportive and loving home and the National GWP Rescue, Inc. Sponsored and supported by the GWPCA, the American Kennel Club (AKC) parent club of the breed, NGWPR is committed to helping desperate and neglected Wires whenever and where ever po

ssible. National GWP Rescue is a nationwide rescue program whose volunteers work tirelessly to provide funding, foster homes, medical care and training for GWPs found in shelters, animal control facilities and to those GWPs whose current owners are unable to provide a suitable situation. The unstable economy has placed a strain on many families and has contributed to the unusually high number of GWPs currently in rescue. Feeling the impact of the financial downturn, animal shelters and rescue organizations throughout the United States are under—funded and over—burdened by the number of dogs and cats in their care. Oftentimes these facilities contact NGWPR and request assistance. Working hand—in—hand with governmental and local shelters, the Wirehearts Foster Care Network, provides a safe and responsible home for any GWP in need. Placed with an experienced GWPCA member—foster, GWPs that have been neglected, untrained or have medical issues quickly blossom as they are readied for their "forever" homes.

Wellston, OH

Duke AKA Boris- this handsome GWP was found laying on a sidewalk in the Ukraine. We don’t know if his family was killed or he was somehow lost. He was taken in by a rescue group and adopted to a family in the United States. Unfortunately, he is not good with other male dogs and was given to rescue. He has now spent some time with Heidi. His obedience is good and he is definitely ready to join a family. He is fully vetted eight years old and waiting for his perfect family. He would be best as an only dog or with a female of similar size. if you would like to add do to your home please call or text Suzanne 860-921-7827 or simply fill out a foster or adoption application on our website nationalgwprescue.com.

Help needed: transport-
Dresden, WA to Wellston OH

Mac is the tripod that came to us from British Columbia. He is currently in Washington however he does not get along with some male dogs and the foster has several other dogs. He is selective with some dogs he’s fine and with others he goes after them. He also has some separation anxiety so we would really like to get Mack to, our behaviorist in Ohio. I think that is his best chance for success. If you have used a transport that you would recommend or know somebody that would be driving in that direction. Please reach out to me by text or phone 860-921-7827.
Getting him moved ASAP is really important

Meet Winnie located in Tiffin Ohio. She was born 6/9/23, is up-to-date on her shots, but not yet spayed. Winnie will be spayed either before she leaves her owner or shortly after joining her adopter. So why is Winnie being rehomed? this family got Winnie in April 2024 so this is her second home. Unfortunately she has shown aggression toward the Brittney spaniel in the family over toys and food. She has had no resource guarding behavior toward humans only the other dog . Winnie he has had some professional obedience training at a board and train facility and nose basic commands and it’s excellent on the leash. please call or text Suzann 860-921-7827 or simply complete an adoption application on our website national gwprescue.com.

Greta Update: Greta had her follow up visit and Dr Collins is very happy with the outcome of the surgery. Thank you again for everyone who helped give Greta this opportunity to live her best life!!

Greta is doing well. She is on pain meds and Joann is icing it 4 times a day. Thank you again for all the love prayers and support you had shown Greta.

I spoke with the surgeon and Greta is doing well. Surgery was a success. They believe they have increased her range of motion and she should live pain-free. The hope is that she can run and do all the things that any other young GWP does she will come home tomorrow and I will update everybody on her progress again thank you all for your continued generosity

Well, the day has finally come for Greta to have her elbow surgery. For those of you that have not heard Greta’s story, when she was just a puppy somebody did the unthinkable. They shot her in the elbow. Greta sat in a Shelter for months with no medical attention. What they are going to do for Greta is to round off the sharp bone that causes her pain with every step. We raised funds for Greta and were about $1200 short of our goal of $5000. If anybody would like to donate please do so through the website nationalgwprescue.com

I cannot stress enough, how grateful we are for all the support Greta has received without the support. She would not be having surgery tomorrow. More than anything keep Greta in your prayers tomorrow. We will update everybody when surgery is over.

From Joann, Well 7:00am tomorrow Dr. Greta goes from Doctor to Patient!
Thanks to the amazing fund raising of Suzanne Oslander & National German Wirehaired Pointer Rescue Greta is able to have her life altering surgery!
This surgery will hopefully reverse some of the damage done to her prior to her rescue & also relieve some the pain she deals with on a daily basis 🤞🏼
Keep her in your thoughts Friday Jan 3rd.
