For the love of food, nature and family!

We’ve always grown food. Both of our Grandparents grew and preserved food. Much of our treasured memories of our elders are woven in and around stories of food, of gardens grown, harvests reaped and meals shared.

After growing food, canning and preserving food or ‘putting up,’ came naturally to the two of us. It’s a passion, putting up food. Saving the seasons bounty against the winter to come. It’s a tradition that has meaning for us. There is a satisfaction and feeling of well being that comes from this simple time-honored act of self-sustenance. Can there be any doubt of its place in the natural order? We don’t think so.

We disconnected from network television years ago. The same can be said for mainstream media and advertising. It’s helped us over the years to deprogram a bit. The disconnect has helped us to see the excessive consumerism that exists today, particularly in western society. To see how possessions have replaced traditional family values, pulling families apart instead of bringing them together. We see how food has been industrialized to the point where most of it is no longer food at all.

The homestead is where we intended to arrive, not where we have ended up. Green Growers Homestead is the embodiment of the lifestyle we want for our family. It is not simply a spot on a map as it exists anywhere we are. The homestead is the idea that brings us, our goals and our values together as one. Where we are now is merely en-route to the final destination, living simply, in a sustainable manner. We’ll get there, together.
