Our final HSMC intern shout out goes to Jennifer who entered our internship early this year after completing AgTech 101 and has been flourishing as a Farm Hand intern! She’s been maintaining the 4 systems alongside Jose, Oscar & and has been great to work with! 💪🏽

While her career aspirations are geared more toward healthcare, we’re sure her experience with plant care will come in handy once she enters her Biology courses in college soon! 🏥

Jose was just about to wrap his internship when we got the news that our internship stipends have been extended with a 50% increase in hours for our interns! 🥳

So, Jose along with the rest of our current interns will be continuing their Farm Hand work on our systems until June 30th at ! 😁

Jose has shown great promise in and passion for sustainable agriculture and we can see a bright future in the sector ahead for him. Under guidance, he’s helped steward our 4 Gardyn tech systems and is aiming to pursue new ag roles when his internship wraps in the next few weeks! 💪🏽

He, along with our other interns, helped maintain our systems at HSMC and is continuing to grow. 🌿

The Foundation's Grantee Partner Change Food for Good is Bronx-based organization dedicated to workforce development and ag-tech.

The organization underscores the pivotal importance of climate justice in their commitment to fostering food justice and sovereignty. Through their initiatives, they show dedication to addressing the environmental impacts of food systems, recognizing the urgency of creating sustainable practices for the well-being of both communities and the planet.

Our AgTech training is officially underway in Nairobi, thanks to our diligent team members Jane & Steve! They shared an update this morning on the training progress, as well as the farm! We’re so excited to see the farm progressing, yielding a great harvest for residents of Mukuru and beginning to test new crop varieties! 🥬🫛🌱

However, shortly after our last harvest of 2023, Mukuru was hit by massive repeated rainstorms that left the neighborhoods flooded (swipe to view). ➡️

One of the byproducts of climate-caused droughts is the difficulties with water absorption when more extreme weather events do occur. Sort of like when you forget to water your plants for a very long time and then douse it with too much water, you’ll see it pool at the surface longer than usual because it isn’t absorbing the water as well? That’s what climate caused drought is doing to neighborhoods like Mukuru. 🌧️

We’re continuing to work with to ensure the system is functioning well and our team members, Steve & Jane, to ensure they are receiving adequate support. 💚

Last week, we wrapped up our Fall AgTech 101 cohort with and Ms.Tabrizi and the participants were kind enough to gift our instructor, , with a thoughtful card, coffee and a plant! 🥹💚

We want to just take a moment to appreciate our Ag Manager for all the work he did with this class. He truly went above and beyond - catering to the students learning styles and goals, facilitating new sessions like our DNA Day, and even, creating a vocab sheet for an Arab speaking student so they could stay involved fully (swipe to see 🥰). He truly did an amazing job.💪🏽

Cohort 6 did great with learning hand tool & power tool basics from our friends at and helped our team disassemble the greenhouse at El Coqui! 🐸

Our farm, Sofrito, will have a new home which our students will help build in the coming weeks at a school that’s doing amazing work with food relief and vertical growing! 🌱
