Bark Hill Dog Training Bark Hill offers fun, friendly, and fully insured dog training classes in Leicestershire. In 2018, her son Elliott wanted to earn a bit of pocket money!

Bark Hill Dog Training was founded in 2012 by Eliza Hill and helped dog owners to help their dogs for four years. So the business re-launched with smaller operations and evolved into what it is today. "After running Bark Hill successfully for four years but then having to give it up to get a "proper job," I'm so pleased to be able to announce that alongside my new apprentice, we are back running a

slightly smaller operation but having just as much fun learning new techniques, training and socialising with our canine companions." - Founder Eliza Hill, 2018

"After helping my Mum run her classes for two years, I'm so excited to continue working for the family business post-COVID alongside my studies to pass on everything I've learnt to dog owners across Leicestershire." - Instructor Elliott Hill, 2021

Time for some stats…

At last year’s dog show, we received 50 entries from 30 dogs who won a total of 23 rosettes! Our youngest dog was 5 months old and our oldest was 12 years. 2 dogs walked away with a free groom.

Our most popular class was Prettiest Lady with 13 entries and our least popular was Best Trick with a respectable 3 (the class to watch if you want a prize this year!) How many will enter our BRAND NEW Fancy Dress class this year?

7 of last year’s dogs beat the queues by registering in advance online. Head to our page to do the same!

I think that’s enough maths for one night! And remember, there can only be one Best in Show…

It has been mentioned in local groups that Kennel Cough has been going round the area.

Remember that Kennel Cough is not just transmitted in kennels, and can be caught in many of the same ways as a common cold.

Talk to your vet about the kennel cough vaccine!

KENNEL COUGH

With many lockdown puppies coming out for the first time, there has been an increase in kennel cough cases. Kennel cough is a contagious disease in dogs and can pass through contaminated surfaces as well as through the air.

The main symptom of kennel cough is a persistent forceful cough that can sound like:
- A goose honk
- Something stuck in their throat

Dogs usually recover with time but kennel cough can be dangerous to very young or old dogs, or dogs with pre-existing health conditions.

Unfortunately dogs cannot wear a face mask! However there are precautions you can take, such as not letting your dog drink from puddles that could be contaminated by other dogs.

If you suspect your dog has kennel cough, contact your vet. Your dog may need to isolate, but always follow your vets advice. Try to ventilate your home and avoid using a collar when not required to aid recovery.

The best way to prevent kennel cough is a vaccine. This may be required if your dog is boarding but kennel cough is not exclusive to boarding kennels. Ask your vet about the kennel cough vaccine to protect your dog.
