The Natural Disasters litter turned 1 year old today! We can’t believe it, but it’s true. We’re so proud of the owners and pups in this litter. Their owners have given them such wonderful, loving lives and the pups are all thriving in their new homes. Happy birthday, gang!! 🐺🎂🎉🥳💜

‼️Update‼️

We are very disappointed to report that our Wren x Freud breeding plans have been permanently cancelled.

Wren has a habit of exceedingly poor timing with her heat cycles. For the year of 2024, she was due to come into heat mid May and again in November. She did not have a cycle in May or June and instead elected to come into heat on 7/7, two months later than anticipated. This new timeline would put her needing to be bred to Freud in approximately 2 weeks. The bad timing on her part coincides with the fact that we are currently due in less than two weeks with our second human baby. This would mean that progesterone timing and managing a live breeding would need to occur at the same time that I will be having a baby and bringing a newborn home. As you can imagine this is not particularly feasible to accomplish, nor a safe environment for a newborn to be brought home into. The next bit of unfortunate news is that because Wren is two months late on her current heat cycle, she will not cycle again prior to turning 5 years of age. One thing that I have maintained in this breeding endeavor is that our dogs are our pets and family first and foremost. Breeding an “older” female dog has been proven to increase morbidity and mortality both during pregnancy and postpartum. As such I will not breed any of my girls after the age of 5, meaning Wren will not be bred again.

I made the difficult decision to spay Wren on Tuesday. By spaying her less than 48h into her cycle, I was able to mitigate the increased bleeding risks associated with spaying an in heat dog. Wren is recovering very well from her surgery and doing just fine.

At this time the only active breeding dog we have is FREUD. He will remain intact for the foreseeable future. We do not have any breeding females, and therefore no future litter plans. We are not sure what this means for the future of Buccleuch Tamaskan and if we will continue to breed or not. We would be happy to forgo a stud fee and keep a female puppy of Freud’s, but we do not have any breeding plans for him and no current interest from anyone in using him.

Major construction is underway here at Buccleuch, and our puppers are unphased by all the noise and commotion. Strangers coming and going, tractors, jack hammering, floor vibrating? No biggie.

This type of “response” is due to proper socialization, which starts 72h after birth, with PuppyCulture. All of our litters are raised with PuppyCulture. Tried, tested and true!

It’s bittersweet, but we are officially empty puppy nesters. Earthquake (red collar) is now known as Maverick. He went to his forever home today with two big doggy sisters, and lots of farm animal friends to get to know. His new family is local, so we will hopefully be able to see him from time to time! We miss you already, sweet boy! ❤️

Sandstorm also has gone to her new home, but we forgot to get a final photo in all of the excitement. Good news though, her new home is with one of our family members, on a co-own, and will be our (hopeful) future breeding female once momma Wren is finished. So, lots more pictures of her to come 💛

UPDATE: Earthquake has found his forever home!

Still Available, Mr. Earthquake (red collar). This precious boy who is full of cuddles and kisses still hasn’t found his perfect fit. He’s outgoing, gentle and very laid back. The nuggets are 7 weeks! We have some more socialization on the agenda this week, but mostly downtime and TLC while the puppies’ human parents are out of town getting married! Week 8 will bring structure testing and home selections while week 9 brings the next chapter of the pups’ lives in their new homes. 6 weeks old!! Puppies are getting vaccines, microchipped and dewormed (for the third time) tomorrow! Then they have their temperament testing on Sunday, with visitors lined up for the next 4 days, straight! They’ll be very busy and tuckered pups 💜

3 weeks! The little munchkins continue to change by the minute. They’re becoming more stable on their feet and their howls are growing louder. Spunky little guys!

2 weeks! The puppies are becoming puppies! Everyone’s eyes are now open, they’re starting to toddle around and their personalities are beginning to shine through. They are by far the noisiest litter we’ve had to date, which is interesting because Wren is very quiet! Some are more independent and daring than others at the moment, but they all enjoy being cuddled and handled. ENS protocols will continue as we now enter the transitional period. 🐺x10💜
