Chuck: Grew up in western Nebraska, in the fields and prairies. Moved to the east coast briefly, then headed for Alaska, where there weren't so many people. Bought a truck and drove from Boston to Fairbanks, with Smokey the cat in the back. (She settled down eventually)
Got his pilots license, bought a plane, met his wife, and acquired the most beautiful daughter in the whole world. Carolyn: Born
and raised in Alaska, almost born in an airplane as there was no doctor in Seldovia at the time. Grew up on a fishing boat, with salt water in her veins
and fish scales in her hair. Remembers the Good Friday earthquake and pipeline days in Anchorage, canning salmon and cutting wood for winter....wishes she could go home again, sometimes. Was working on her pilots license when she met Chuck, so they had much in common immediately....
Now they've come full circle to Nebraska, sunflowers and endless vistas, thunderstorms and tomatoes without a greenhouse. The most beautiful daughter in the world is growing up fast and making her own mark on the world. The menagerie has grown---two llamas watch over an assortment of goats, a sheep, chickens and cats. The cats will go out to pasture with the goats, as do the chickens. Sara, the 5 pound chihuahua, rules the house with a tiny golden paw. She was born with a cleft palate and no one knew, til we'd fed her by hand for 2 weeks. When the vet told us, and suggested putting her down, there was simply no question.
