A great infographic by APDT.

The more you practice behaviours with your dog that lead to positive results for them (such as treats or play for example), the more of a habit it becomes.

This makes it much easier to transfer the behaviour into more difficult situations for them.

Eventually the reinforcer (food or play etc) has much less significance to your dog (but should still be provided) as they are in the habit of responding to you, regardless of what’s going on around them.

Practice when you don’t need it, so you are both ready when you do!

One of our puppies has over 8k followers on Instagram😁 we love seeing our puppies in their fore ever homes bringing joy to their humans🥹 Cache, was especially special to us formerly known as “chunk” because he was born without a litter.
