Practicing “with me” on the trails without distractions. I’m practicing this w/o distractions so they don’t always associate this cue with having to always ignore fun things like dogs, people, bikes. This is such an underrated but hard skill that needs to be more normalized. Not every dog on off-leash trails wants a group of dogs running up to them. Not every kid is comfortable with having to walk by large dogs. Some people might have fears or mobility concerns and don’t need the added stress of walking by dogs. This isn’t always perfect and sometimes they break and go sniff a dog. Most of the time it’s a well meaning person who stops to chat and messes up the groove 🤣 but I try my best to be respectful of everyone and try not to get upset when this happens and just let them know if they see me again to just keep walking and ignore us! No one is perfect, no dog is perfect. Be kind to yourself, and your dogs. 💖
