As life long Sherwood residents Sandy and I were proud and fortunate to attend K-9 Irma's retirement ceremony. Irma has officially taken her last call protecting the Sherwood community. Welcome to a well deserved retirement Irma.

When was the last time you were silly with your dog?
Yes, obedience is important. But so is allowing your dog to just be a dog!
So, get outside and play with your pup!☀️🐾

Variety is the spice of life. Always push your dogs to try new things. This helps build confidence and bonds.
Enrichment: the action of improving or enhancing the quality or value of something.
You’ll hear our team talk about enrichment and the importance of it frequently, but what exactly IS enrichment to your dog?
Today we are going to talk about active, and food based enrichment and how it provides our canine buddies with mental stimulation.
In this video, you’ll see 14 week old puppy Knox playing with his Kong Wobbler. The bottom of the toy is weighted, so that it sits upright until it’s knocked over. Every so often, you will see some of his kibble fall out of the small hole that is located in the middle of the toy. For Knox to be able to get the kibble out, he has to problem solve. He has to stay engaged and continuously work for those calories.
This activity forces a dog to problem solve, and keeps them mentally stimulated. Keeping a dog mentally stimulated is important for their development, and also helps prevent boredom (boredom can cause behavior problems such as excessive barking, incessant chewing, destructive behavior etc).
Dogs are creatures of habit, and are professionals when it comes to routine. So today make something as routine as feeding your pup, into something fun.
Your dog will thank you for it 😊

Working on balance and positioning with day train pup Violet today! Introducing “up” and “off” with new scenarios, and you can tell she’s still trying to figure out her footing.
Lesson of the day: give your dog a chance to think and process commands before issuing any pressure or corrections. Especially when new equipment/scenarios are involved!
We hope you are all having a good week!🐾
