Email: [email protected] "Mikey's Chance" - Our rescue is named after a dog called Mikey, who was a beautiful, friendly black lab whose people abandoned him. He spent several months in a cramped, dark, back room kennel in an overcrowded shelter, slowly losing hope. Mikey finally snapped, a victim to severe kennel stress. He tried to bite three shelter staff,
and was euthanized. This happened the very day someone arrived to take him to a foster home. Mikey's chance at a new life came too late ... and we are determined to work as hard and as effectively as we can to make sure that this does not happen again to any dog that we are in a position to help. Dear Friends: we have received word of the passing of an amazing community member and dog lover Erin Steinert. We would like to send the most heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and all who loved her (human and canine). She was a true blue dog lover and well respected member of our community. Please join us in letting Erin's friends and family how sorry we are to hear of her passing and that we are sending lots of prayers and comfort their way ✨🐾🌹

Dear Rescue Supporters: you may have heard of the three poor dogs that were dumped and abandoned in a local canyon. Several of our good Samaritans made many attempts to capture them. Well, the good news is today they succeeded! This morning the three dogs were seen at by the wonderful people at Vista Veterinary Hospital and Mikey's covered the costs. More good news: all three are in decent condition considering all they’ve been through.
They had complete exams, received initial distemper/parvo vaccines, Bordetella, rabies and were microchipped. They will be spayed and neutered on Friday after being deemed healthy enough to undergo surgery.
The community really pulled together for these dogs and we are so grateful. Big thanks to Jim, Nikki, Sandy and many others involved with getting them to safety.
Donations for their vet care are much appreciated. You can call Vista Vet direct and donate to the Mikey’s Chance account for the care of the Canyon dogs(1-509-783-2131) or Venmo to -chance (3070) if it also for the last 4 of the phone number. On Sunday, they will be making their way to Rescue4all in Spokane. They would greatly appreciate future donations for care.

Hey Dog Lovers! The weather will be great for a few more months - the best time to add a new furry family member to your home! This Saturday we will be at PetSmart on Canal in Kennewick from 11am-1pm with many of our adoptable dogs. Stay tuned for the video of which dogs have RSVP'd to be there 😁

Dear Friends: We have some very sad news to share. Our "Super-dog" Reeves crossed Rainbow Bridge yesterday.
Please join us in sending lots of love and comfort to Reeve's devoted foster parents - Stephanie and Martin, who committed to caring for Reeves and giving him his best life over the past 7 years.
They demonstrated the true spirit of Mikey's Chance - they gave Reeves a chance that many would not have when he was found badly injured, with a broken back, by the side of the road. Thanks to their devotion, Reeves had 7 happy years filled with tons of fun adventures including attending Meet & Greets, frolicking with the many foster pets that came in and out of his home, riding around in his very own custom made wheelchair, birthday parties and so much more 🥰.
Rest easy Reeves - your spirit will live on in all those you touched 🌈🌈🌈

I lost one of my best friends today. Reeves was the most time consuming, frustrating, but lovable dogs I’ve ever had the pleasure of sharing my life with. He came to us 7 years ago after being found on the side of the highway in Idaho. A state trooper pulled over thinking he was deceased and the way he described it, Reeves popped his head up and the officer knew he wasn’t ready to say goodbye. He was only about 6 months old and paralyzed. After multiple vets suggested euthanasia, I met Dr. Meyer at Vista Veterinary Hospital who apparently immediately realized how crazy I was and gave me the encouragement to keep Reeves and care for him for the time he had left. We never imagined it would be 7 years but I’m thankful for each day we had with him. It was never easy caring for Reeves but it was always worth it. He lived life to the fullest every single day. Thanks to so many supporters of Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue, Reeves had the best medical care while with us, a customized wheelchair that he inherited from another great dog, and a banging birthday party at the Kennewick Petsmart every September. I loved being Reeves’s mom. It was like being out with a celebrity. We rarely made it out of a vet clinic or store without someone saying, “Is that Reeves with Mikey’s Chance?!”
Today we realized Reeves had a tumor in his bladder after it had already burst. There was nothing we could do. My best friend took him home and spent the afternoon feeding him treats, rubbing his ears, and keeping him comfortable until we were able to get home from Idaho. Reeves got to eat cheeseburgers while surrounded by those who loved him most before saying goodbye. Life is going to be far too quiet without our Beaver boy.

Guess who is going to be at tomorrow’s meet & greet at Paws Natural Pet Emporium in Kennewick? Stevie Nicks! 🥳 She needs a foster, or better yet a forever home, so come meet her & fall in love! Two years ago, in the middle of a rain storm, a volunteer crawled through a pig pen in brand new shoes to rescue an injured dog. Stevie has now spent her entire two years with the rescue in boarding. Originally we believed Stevie was not other dog friendly. But since she’s been lucky enough to snag a spot at Mattox Dog Training Academy , we have actually learned that Stevie is just selective in her friends - so an introduction with any existing dogs in the home is a must but not a deal breaker. Because Stevie has been living at Mattox Dog Training Academy, she is impeccably trained. She knows things such as sit, down, stay, etc. and is very well versed in her commands. People spend thousands of dollars to train their dogs at MDTA (because it’s freaking worth it) and we’ve already done that for you! The amazing trainers at MDTA can help facilitate any introductions to current dogs as well. Stevie Nicks is in need of an immediate foster or adoptive home. She’d do best with dogs similar in size to herself. If you think Stevie could be a fit in your home, please come meet her Saturday, June 1st from 11am-1pm at Paw's Natural Pet Emporium.
