Today was one of those days that reminded me exactly why professional experience in pet care is so important.

When I arrived at a client’s home this morning, I was heartbroken to find that their sweet 16-year-old dog had passed away peacefully during the night. While it was incredibly sad, I was able to handle the situation with care, respect, and the calm experience that comes from years in this field. I contacted the family immediately, followed their emergency instructions, and ensured their beloved pet was treated with dignity and compassion.

It’s moments like this that truly separate a trained, professional sitter from a well-meaning neighborhood kid or the cheapest option available.

Being a pet sitter isn’t just about feeding and walking pets—it’s about knowing what to do in stressful, emotional, or even tragic situations. It’s about being reliable, responsible, and prepared—always.

I know price is a factor when choosing a sitter, but I encourage pet parents to ask themselves: What would I want for my pet if something unexpected happened?

Anyone can watch a pet. But not everyone is equipped to support a family through an unexpected loss. That’s not something you can put a bargain price on.
